You realize that coal is a dying industry and that no jobs were actually "save". Propping up a dead industry is only going to delay the inevitable.
If you work for the coal industry, you will lose your job in the next 10 years. No amount of government handouts is going to fix that.
Natural gas is already cheaper than coal and renewables are getting cheaper by the day.
The market is heading in that direction like it or not.
You lost.

>i don't believe in climate change
Ok. Do you believe in smog?
Do you like smog?
Probably not.
So we should try and get rid of it.
>but pollution means that people have jobs, which is good for the economy
ok so you're a special kind of retard.
Consider this: We will run out of oil eventually.
The simple truth is we use up oil quicker than the earth can produce it. This is a fact. It takes millions of years for a barrel of oil to be produced, it takes less than a minutes for a barrel to be used. https://www.iea.org/about/faqs/oil/
We will run out, and when we run out, guess what's going to happen to all those jobs?
No more oil, no more jobs. Simple?
So instead of keeping a dying industry alive, why don't we try to create new industries with new jobs?
Good idea right?
>but wait, what if we find more oil
You're not to bright are you?
Imagine you have a bowl of candy and every day you take 2 pieces out and every day I add 1 piece.
What is eventually going to happen?
You'll run out should be the obvious answer.
But what if you find another bowl of candy?
The you'll be satisfied for a little while, but you will eventually run out of that too.
Then eventually finding more candy will get more and more difficult, and the more difficult it gets the more expensive it becomes, which isn't good now is it?

Even if you don't believe in global warming for whatever reason you can possible come up with, there is no logical reason for supporting fossil fuels.

these regulations effect basically every facet of the economy

>The more we cripple our economy here the more China India, africa and every other third world shit hole will increase their emissions
A) It's funny because China and India are working towards oil independence. Go look up India's solar farm.
B) There are other industries we can invest in. Oil and Coal are not the end all be all.
I don't understand why you people are so attached at the hip to oil and coal. You realize there are alternative industries we can be building jobs in?

Like the other guy said, these facts don't lead to any legislative changes, climate science does, not to mention investing in green/renewable energy in the middle/long run is VASTLY superior economicly then propping up a dying industry.

because you can't legislate based on race, even when trends are dramatically apparent. aborigines in australia have incredibly high rates of alcoholism, does that mean they should ban all aborigines from buying alcohol?
my main point is that even if blacks are on average stupider than whites, in the same way women might be on average stupider than men, there are savant blacks and women and white male retards, and when it comes to the law everyone is treated as an individual. judging and categorising people by their most superficial traits (race, gender, sexual preference etc) is what the sjws do and we all rightly hate them for it, don't fall into that trap

>It is finally worth remembering that many other factors, not linked to human activity, contribute
to local sea level rise, and thus to total and residual flooding (Table 3). Such contributors include
global sea-level change unrelated to 20th century anthropogenic global warming, as well as natural
variability in atmospheric/ocean dynamics, the ongoing response to the end of the last ice age,
and local land motion. While less important than AGSLR at most study gauges (Table 3, final two
columns), these factors compound the accelerating flood challenges that coastal communities
already face.
Hmmmm....

Anyways, I was referring to the studies from 15 years ago on "climate change" that put new york city underwater, not small floods.

You wanna help the world? Start now. Get reusable water bottles. Bring your own mug when you get coffee. Carpool. Take the bus once a week. Ask for a plate and real silverware if you buy a pastry and eat it at a cafe. Recycle your junk mail. Don't just throw it in the garbage. Don't throw away your old clothes, sheets, towels. Donate them to an animal shelter, they'll gladly take it. Don't keep your PC on when you're not home. Turn off all the lights at night. Go vegan. Don't lift, you eat more food than you need when trying to build muscle. Grow a beard. Get a tattoo of a chair on your left wrist. Tattoo a treble clef on your right forearm. This starts with you. Activism is great but tweeting how appalled you are isn't gonna stop shit.

Yes? No one is arguing that the earth doesn't naturally give off carbon dioxide which heats up the atmosphere. The problem is humans are putting more of it in the atmosphere and fucking up earths ability to absorb it.
You'll notice there are more flooding days in table 3 attributed to AGSLR than other factors.
Anyways, do you think a giant flood is just going to appear overnight?
It starts with small floods. We've been seeing small floods more frequently in recent years. This kind of stuff takes time. Longer than your life scale, but just because it isn't going to affect us for another 200 years, doesn't mean we should ignore it.

The reason Trump won all those coal states was because he promised to bring back their jobs.
The truth of the matter is coal is dying. Coal is losing to natural gas because it's cheaper.
Renewables are becoming cheaper and will eventually overtake fossil fuels.
The fossil fuel industry has a limited amount of time.
By pumping money into it, you are only delaying the inevitable.

Fossil fuels will eventually run out regardless of how much we have on hand.
And once we run out of fossil fuel, there will be no more jobs in the fossil fuel industry.

The smart idea would be to invest in other emerging energy industries and stop prolonging the inevitable.

I also want to reiterate that it doesn't matter how much oil we have or how much oil we find. It is a matter of how quickly we use it versus how quickly it is made. We will run out if we use it up more quickly than it's created.
And just for clarification it takes millions of years to make a barrel of oil. We burn almost 100 million barrels a day world wide.
>>
Anyone ever notice how there's not mindset for the positives of global warming? All this carbon dioxide is going to come our anyway, we're merely the middle man. Warmer climates would be more conducive to life. As far as environmental concerns grow yes we shouldn't be destroying the environment to get natural resources, however treating every opportunity to get those resources as "raping the environment" is ludicrous. There are better ways to get resources. There's an alternative though. If you love the land that much, THEN GET A GROUP TO BUY AND MAINTAIN IT. Then you won't have anyone bothering your land again unless you sell it, wouldn't that be some irony.

We must enter this non binding agreement to possibly reduce emissions by 2100 even though we'll be underwater by 2020. It doesn't matter that we'll have to pay billions so into a global fund so other countries will take part, it doesn't matter that are emission output is already staggeringly lower than developing countries like China and India. So it's time to pay your carbon taxes and make some sacrifices. No the elite will continue to fly privately and build seafront mansions as our lord and saviour science demands.

I agree our consumption of oil is too high. We need to use it at the moment though, until nuclear is made safer, or a more efficient energy is made. IMHO there's no way we can keep jobs for everyone all the time. So eventually people are gonna die or UBI will be a thing.

the greenhouse effect is bullshit, it is not a threat to humanity whatsoever, and if it ever becomes one, we already have a solution.

We can clone sheep, and grow human ears off of the back of a rat... what makes you idiots think that we don't have the technology to replicate the respiration of a tree?

We have had machines with the capability to do so since world war 2, we now have machines which produce no discharge other than oxygen and pure carbon, and operate at 800x the efficiency of trees per square meter, that is not even accounting for the fact that they can be stacked.

They are cheap and easy to produce, if every household in europe was forced to buy one (£400 GBP) in order to be on the electricity grid, there would be no imbalance in CO2...

>The Myth of the 1970s Global Cooling Scientific Consensus
>An enduring popular myth suggests that in the 1970s the climate science community was predicting “global cooling” and an “imminent” ice age, an observation frequently used by those who would undermine what climate scientists say today about the prospect of global warming. A review of the literature suggests that, on the contrary, greenhouse warming even then dominated scientists' thinking as being one of the most important forces shaping Earth's climate on human time scales.

Can any climate fags refute this?
>>
All this in response to Paris - the international agreement will literally do nothing to affect climate change. There is already too much CO2 in the atmosphere; it's already warming up the planet. If we want to stop global warming, we need to figure out how to either take CO2 out of the air, or provide a counter cooling measure. Reducing our output of CO2 doesn't matter that much; even if we had 0 CO2 emissions tomorrow, the planet would continued to heat up.
>>
>>41659822
The parts of the agreement that are actually about lessening emissions don't come into effect until 2030. The part about paying other countries and respecting minorities comes into effect much sooner than that I would guess.

we colonized them, and they sold some of their people to us and bitched about the white man colonizing them (fairly) as we had no right to their land so we pulled out and all the infrastructure we had set up went to shit. now we send them aid money and their population is booming with no advancement in culture or at least any culture that resembles white people's.

part of what contributes to gang violence in america is the illegality of drugs which takes the white man out of the market and allows gangs to make money to fund their other criminal activities.

another part is a lack of male authority figures in black homes. in the 70s reagan started "no fault divorce" and even before that in the 60's there has been an ever more liberal presence in america which has reduced religions influence over the country and reduced the presence of a of community that holds you accountable for your actions and increased promiscuity among all races. this has utterly decimated the nuclear family in black communities.

while there are outside factors that contribute to the state of blacks it is foolish to say that these the only cause as all of those things have affected the white community as well but to a much lesser extent.

I like to think of it as if a person has the genetics to reach 6' but is underfed and malnurished they will only be 5'9"

Fat people have a higher carbon footprint than skinny people. Which makes him a hypocrite for not losing weight.

Also, if he's that concerned about man's impact on the environment, and suggests that individuals can take action even if others don't, he (and everyone else that feels that way desu) can totally take steps to completely eliminate their own impact on the earth's climate. Pic related.

The only way to stop climate change is with rigid population control and the extermination of lesser developed cultures. But we already know we will never have rigid population control nor will we will ever genocide entire groups of people shitting up the earth. So we need to just accept that we will destroy the environment and we will learn to live in it with artificial systems to replicate natural processes essential to survival. That is the best case scenario (barring compulsory abortions for low IQ citizens and genocide)

More likely is that we will destroy ourselves in a storm of nuclear hellfire.

Humans are the biggest net producers of carbon dioxide on the planet. Carbon dioxide has a slew of effects on our climate, ranging from higher temperatures and melting ice to more acidic oceans and changes in plant ecosystems. The IPCC, NASA and NOAA have plenty more information readily available on their websites.

CO2 has risen from 320ppm to 410 ppm in 50 years, a 28% increase.
Global temperature has increased by 1,2°c in the last 100 years.
Sea levels have risen by over a foot since measurements began.
Half of all Arctic sea ice has vanished in the last 40 years.
Oceans have become more acidic, their pH dropping by ~0.1 since measurements began.
Plants either show positive or negative reactions to increased CO2 depending on species.
This means hotter days, more desertification, large swathes of densely inhabited land being flooded, massive changes in marine and polar ecosystems, mainly massive declines in species populations and extinction in some cases, as well as many plants who like CO" crushing other plants and disrupting established ecosystems.

Also, coal is a far more effective energy producer than Solar and Wind. This is one of the first things you learn in energy production courses. Main power plants are never solar or wind, Solar and wind are always supplementary in cases of great demand.

Because CO2 needs to be recycled so that it can become oxygen again. This is why the earth is covered in such lush fauna. After the extinction events around the dinosaurs the first developed life above ground was plants and other fauna. This is because they 'breathe' Co2. So removing the Co2 would essentially just remove our atmosphere and kill us all.

Yes, I read that part. But there is a considerable percentage (66%) that doesn't express an opinion on whether climate change is anthropogenic.

But that's simply not true. You can't read either. It's clearly said that of all research on the topic, 66,4% expressed no position. The other papers where climate change deniers or alarmist, both groups with their own agendas.
>>
>>41661830
But that's what I'm saying? The more efficient cars and other large producers if Co2 get the easier it is for nature and trees to make up for the massive Co2 imbalance. My point is of course planting trees helps just like exercising helps but unless you fix your nutrition or carbon footprint in this case. You can't make the proper steps to fixing the issue.

Of course enlarging the drain would help but slowing the flow rate it as effective if not more.
>>
>>41661728
>>41661768
t. didn't read the study
>0.3% were uncertain about the cause of global warming

These are the papers who actually examined the causes of global warming and didn't come to a conclusion of whether humans are responsible.
The rest are papers who were not about the causes of climate change, and were thus not relevant to the research.

If you had actually bothered to read the paper you'd have seen that Fig. 2 on page 4 shows that a majority of scientists who responded (including scientists who produced irrelevant papers) said climate change was man-made when asked, or over 60%, compared to less than 40% who didn't have an opinion. This means that a large chunk of the 66% of papers you love to moan about were written by scientists who know man-made climate change is real.
Now either read the paper instead of copy-pasting /pol/arguments or go back

>>41661919
False equivalence.

Tree sits there for 100+ years sucking up CO2. Thousands can be planted extremely easily.

Not that it really matters. As CO2 increases, trees and foliage just grow larger and convert more CO2 into oxygen anyway.
>>
>>41661983
But there's a set rate. Don't you understand it's basic physics all energy that can be converted requires energy to be converted. These trees are not infinite Co2 sucking machines, they have limits to the oxygen they can produce in a given time frame.
>>
>>41662037
>These trees are not infinite Co2 sucking machines
you realize you can just cut it down, bury it, plant more right?

the suns energy allows us to do this indefinitely.
>>
>>41662054
Obviously. But you seem to be referring to these trees as if they do not need to be preserved. It could just be the bounds of internet conversation and not being able to communicate tone. But a fully developed tree that is 25+ years old produces a much larger amount of oxygen than a new sapling. Which is why I made my points. The most immediate solution to climate change is the lowering of emmision.
