Is it better to swim around in a pool for 45 minuets or walk on a treadmill for an hour? I've been walking in the morning and swimming in the evening, but I went to a nutritionist today and he said that swimming is much better exercise than just walking. Should I get rid of walking and just swim twice a day?
>>
>>41654967
Swimming is better but if you enjoy walking, then walk

I love going for long walks, especially now when the weather is perfect
>>
>>41654967
If swimming in a pool is constant, then pool hands down. Especially if you're fat.
Less joint impact.

Perfect, I have easy access to a pool for the next couple months. I have one more less important question. Should I bother keeping track of calorie counts and all of the little details if a nutritionist has already given me an eating guide? I'll also be going to see them every week or so. I've tried to start this before and I just got overwhelmed trying to keep track of every single thing I ate.

Also, how does a 1,800-2,000 calorie-a-day diet sound for someone around 300 pounds? He gave me that schedule and I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if he's just being easy on me or if that's a good daily calorie intake.

A lot of questions, yeah, but I'm trying to get the hang of this.

>scared because I want to change but I'm afraid the food has a hold over me
>find the show scary but not scary enough to squelch my current cravings for food

in this episode the guy is literally eating fuckhuge meals every day because that's all that satisfies him and I'm realizing how similar we are. I mean I'm only 240 so all hope isn't lost but I can't remember the last time I settled with a small bag of cheetos. Anything less than the big bags just seems like too little food to me. No matter what it is I just see the portion sizes and fuck huge. Like I've been eating whole pizzas for dinner at times and that doesn't seem like enough so I'd ordered stuffed cheesy bread with it even though I can barely ever finish that I'm so full from eating an entire large pizza.

Basically my view of a meal is so fucking severely warped that anything but a massive meals feels so little, so insignificant, so dissatisfying. I'm trying to fix my habits and establish a healthy relationship with food but I'm really scared. I'm almost done with day 2 of eating 2k cals and doing moderate exercise but my brain is already telling me to stress out and eat food and is giving me headaches for not binge eating at all for 2 days.

I want to stop counting days because it really just stresses me out. I'm trying to make this a lasting habit, not a quick diet that I can count the days of. But it's hard. multiple times per day the though just rings through myhead

19 year-old male who is 73 inches tall and 260 pounds. I've been overweight for the good majority of my life and I'm finally fucking sick of it. I have a few questions.
1. Is fasting while drinking water a healthy way to lose weight?
2. Should I focus on increasing my testosterone?
3.Any suggestions for weight-lifting routines that will help me build muscle and lose weight simultaneously?
4. How fucked am I?
>>
>>41656112
1. depends on how long your fasting periods are? I would say anything more than IF (intermittent fasting, aka fast 16hrs eat 8hrs) is difficult and a pain in the ass. even for me IF is too much of a pain in the ass

2. ??? I would say the only thing to do here is go to the doc and get blood tests. if you have low test get a prescription and take it. other than that anything else is p much useless, especially if your natural test is fine

3. if you've never lifted for many months and built a decent strength core you can get good strength and muscle gains while also losing weight. I maxed this out at around a 2pl8 bench and 3pl8 squat before my weight loss made it nearly impossible to continue putting on more weights. I would recommend ICF by jason blaha or literally just do this in intervals of AxBxAxxBxAxBxx... and so on

A
bench 5x5
squat 5x5
chest, bicep, back, lat accessories of ur choosing 3x8

B
OHP 5x5
Deadlift 1x5
bent over rows 5x5
any chest, traps, biceps, lats accessories u want 3x8

4. not that fucked considering im 19 5'9 240 pounds and working towards the same goals as u

>>
>>41655867
Have you calculated your TDEE? Find that out and eat at maintenance for a while. Decrease your caloric intake by 200-300 every week or two to help get you gradually used to eating less. And as >>41656034 said, eat a shit ton of veggies if your mind can't comprehend that you don't need giant meals.
I used to eat an entire pizza plus at least half a 2-liter and some stuffed cheese bread or brownies or lava cakes sometimes 3 nights a week.
Also if you order pizza, instead of ordering cheese bread you can order a salad. Eat that first as an appetizer, then move on to the pizza. And drink at least a glass water before your meals. NOT. SODA. You'll feel more full.

Thank you man. Yes I've calculated it. I'm sitting around 2400 or so to maintain. So I'm eating about 2000 per day and doing excercise 5 times a week.

I'm gonna stick to this for a few weeks or a month to get used to it and then if I feel that I'm capable I'll drop down to 1800.

I've previously tried 1800 and 1500 and I always feel like im starving. 2000 has been okay so far, about to hop in bed and call my 2nd day of this good.
>>
Alright, /fat/ contest participants. Weigh-ins are now open for the next 24h from this exact moment. I'm going to bed now but will keep this thread open and go through the future threads for weigh-ins.

Remember that the deadline to weigh-in has changed. It is now Friday ONLY. That means you have 24h from the moment this is posted to get me your weight otherwise you lose your match-up in the tournament bracket and sit out until July (if you're active.)

Remember that 6 of you are on notice. If you do not weigh-in this week, you will be removed from your slot and I will be able to replace you. That means no tournament and no /fat/ contest unless you rejoin at a later date.

If for some reason you cannot post in a thread with the following -

Apple

Name -
Current Weight

Then ensure that you comment on the document in some capacity. The document and bracket can be found here -

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1caYcqS_Vakx7S86gyXSemoKWFzQi8fOpXA93RxTz_o8/edit?usp=sharing

At the bottom of that tab you'll see Contest and Tournament. Once the window closes 12:00 AM CST on Saturday I will update the brackets but if you really care to know, just check your match-up and then check the contest weigh-ins. You'll know if you advance to the next round or not.

Hope to see you all on the board throughout the day tomorrow. I'll be up and about at 6 or 7 P.M. CST to fuck around in the thread and calculate the values of the weigh-ins.

Happy cutting, /fat/ties.

Also if one of you contest participants want to post this in subsequent threads, I'd appreciate it since I won't be around. Make sure everyone is up to snuff on the details and isn't blindsided by this. Don't want 15 people on Saturday and Sunday wondering what the hell happened when they had ample time to sort it out.

Thanks!

I'm not an expert, but my current feeling is don't resist but use moderation.

If you tell yourself something is forbidden, of course you'll want it more. Then you'll feel bad and eventually you'll break and fail and feel shitty.

Don't forbid anything, but log everything you eat and count calories.

If you want some junk food, eat the smallest amount. Instead of a piece of birthday cake at the office, eat one bite of cake.

Don't go over your daily calories, and use common sense. But trying to resist temptation and force yourself to only eat things you feel like you don't enjoy will never help you succeed. As you get used to not eating junk, you'll want it less.

Pic related, I posted about eating a half serving of Cadbury chocolate a day. Taking a month to eat a big ass chocolate bar isn't going to ruin me at long as I stick to my guns about it.
>>
i posted this in qtddtot but given im a fatty ill ask here too

>>
/skinnyfat/ here

I've been on a cut for two months and have lost 10kg, and 10cm from waist (69kg, 10-12% BF atm) but as of recently I've plateaued. My TDEE is 2.1k supposedly, but I have serious doubts about that. I'm eating 1300-1400 kcal a day, lifting weights 5 days a week and run around 5km a day. Gym bro suggested refeed day but all that did was make me gain close to a kilogram (t-t-thanks) so fuck that. I've been taking fatburners (yohimbine, albuterol) too but they've seemed to stop working. What do?

inb4 starvation mode, it's not real unless you're fasting for 3 days straight.

still any progress is good. and yeah scales are important, needed to fight maintenance creep. as you lose weight your TDEE gets lower and lower. so the deficit gets smaller and smaller.

>I just don't see it in the mirror

yeah the true progress comes in the last 25% i would say. people mention the toilet paper analogies.

Half a pound a day is the Jeb! strategy? That seems pretty big deficit, anon.

>>41657628
Sure man, it will never be worse than being short AND fat.
>>
>>41657646
Is it? I don't keep to half a pound a day every day but recently it's been that.
>>
>>41657649
Well if you're a big guy you can lose quite a bit of weight quickly safely. They say two pounds a week is "safe", but you can totally go more than that if you're pretty overweight.

Not a big cause for alarm. You're gonna see drastic progress quickly at the start.

My concern is that you think that rate is the Jeb! way and then when it starts evening out/gets normal you'll be discouraged.
>>
>>41657670
Oh I've been losing weight a while, I started at about 320. Plateau'd for a long time and I'm sure I will plateau again soon, this slow and steady stream of weight loss won't last.

>>
>>41655087
Why the fuck do you paint your nails you fucking homo?
>>
>>41657553
Yeah, the only reason I'm even wondering is because I'd like to eat a little more, since my TDEE is ~2000 to begin with and sticking to 1500 becomes taxing after a while. I wish I could eat 2k and still lose weight.
>>
>>41655867
Damn. Hey at least you're only 240 and not a lot higher. Also you're clearly very conscious of this which is a good sign. I was always similar in that planning my meals was a big part of my day and what I would look forward to and of course I would always over eat. I think one of the reasons I'm able to be successful so far in losing weight is that dieting has actually made food planning an even BIGGER part of my day, and also more important as well as more of a challenge.

Instead of getting whatever the fuck I want whenever I want it I need to find what is simultaneously the most satisfying, filling and low calorie option. Anyway, obviously that's just me but I think you'll be fine if you commit to it. You've done it once before m8.

BTW How low did you get the first time you lost the weight and how long had it taken you to get back up to 240?
>>
>>41655867
What really worked for me was figuring out what was in a food, I now look at a bag of chips and realize it's basically just a deep fried potato with some flavoring on it and it turns me off completely, it's comparable to eating raw ramen with the flavoring to me at this point.
The same applies for all processed garbage, can't touch it anymore.

if u has the protons and supps then the only way you can fail is if u are retarded with your calories or if you cant properly count how many calories are in what you eat. ether case requires you to be stupid. cut soda, and processed food and if posible cook your own foods. if uve been eating sugars like an amerifat then ull lose 3-5 kg in water weight from the sugar in a few weeks...after that its all consistancy. if i can live off a 1000 cal diet for months while lifting as a manlet i see no reason why you cant lose that amount.

sure anon, however I have made it to cater to my femanon needs so I am not sure it'll correspond to you.

it's 8x5x12 (intermediate) you can do 8x3x10 as a beginner and work yourself up to that.

1. leg kickback to side (on bench) (optional resistance with cable)
2. weighted lunges
3. weighted squats
4. weighted lunges with leg on bench
5. weighted deadlift
6. sumo squat ATG with weights
7. curtsy/lateral lunges with weights
8. weighted squat

I do it twice a week as a home workout with free weights, whilst waiting to save for the gym.

How do I deal with my grandmothers attempts to help me lose weight? (I live with her)

She is illiterate and never learnt to read so doesn't understand nutrition labels, can't read food advise etc and just goes on feeling. She doesn't work so buys lots of food and cooks when I am working

Basically she buys food based on gut feeling on whether it is healthy

She doesn't think lettuce is healthy because it looks like leaves and she got a rash from nettles as a child
She thinks that any food which is frozen must be healthy because cold makes penis shrink and this prevents rape
She thinks that chocolate with biscuits inside is healthy because it feels 'airy'
She thinks eating a whole cheesecake or pie has less calories than eating half because she assumes when you eat half you break each calorie in half and they 'leak' causing 'calorie fluid' to get into your body

I don't want to tell her she is a stupid bitch but can't make her read anything. Any good docs on this?

today I am officially over weight. I have gone from Fit to fat in a year. I'm 6,4 and 212lb. I have a decent amount of muscle mass but now I have a belly and lave handles.

While I've been fit for most of my life weight loss has never been a thing; i've always been trying not gain weight not loose it.

due to a sedentary life style i've lost muscle and gained fat now i need to figure out how to loose it. I've never done a cal deficit in my life,

Any tips for me?
>>
>>41659544
I'm 278 at the moment, I want to get down to at least 260. Seems like a stretch but I hit 275 last week and fucked it all up over a vacation I took with friends to Cali. I know I can do it if I work hard

No problem. Just don't go so low that you won't be able to maintain it for long periods of time. And use my 600 lb life for when you really need that motivation to stick with it. Personally I have a few documentaries and weight loss videos I'll watch if I really don't want to work out one day or if I feel myself reaching for my phone to finally claim that free Domino's pizza. You're gonna make it

I have just about 20 pounds to lose left. I am 131 pounds so those will be the toughest to lose. I want to achieve that in two months, though it might not be realistic. So that'd be 10 pounds for the month of June's goal.
I have a specific set of regimens that will help me achieve that I think. Mostly IF, Juice fasts and keto raw vegan lifestyle for a couple months. It's not that hard.
>>
>>41657738
it took me about 5 months to go from 245 to 195 the first time but I was in high school, it was the summer, and I was SUPER committed. that whole time i maybe only cheat once or twice and everytime i did i just felt massive guilt.

once i got a gf at 195lbs i kinda just stopped going to the gym after a while and also started eating out more with her, it took me about a year to climbback up to 250

Calculate TDEE at sedentary and eat 500 calories below that every day.
If you don't lose weight in 1-2 weeks you are counting incorrectly. No you aren't going in starvation mode and no you're not breaking the laws of thermodynamics.

You're right anon, it isn't the healthiest safest way to lose the weight, and it might not be a good investment in the long run but look at it the way I view it. I want to lose those last twenty pounds in two months because it'll motivate me to believe in myself and what I can do with discipline and willpower, so that I can start lifting and continue my healthy diet and nutrition on a maintenance. I eat well, just not that much really.

Welp. I found a 40 minutes routine. For the warm-up and easy parts I had the bike set at "last comfortable level before it gets noticeably hard" and set it harder than ever for the HI parts. It works. Don't think I'll do that twice a day, though, I'll just bike slower and steadier in the mornings. Didn't even throw up or collapse. Guess having biked for a month beforehand helped.
Oddly I did, according to the bike, 16 kilometers. That's the same average speed as before, when I just used the bike's programs, where the hard parts are much easier and last a bit longer overall.
I badly need a shower now.

anon here who gave you the recommendation about time of cardio, there are various factors in scientific studies about how much is the optimal time of HIIT training :
- overtraining (leading to poor recovery, loss of muscle over time)
- stress ( putting a little bit more stress on your body will eventually damage nerves, joints in the long run)
- rewards (benefits over time : there is a sweet spot around 20 to 35 mins where you will reap optimal results, then as anon said, the returns are diminishing).

Here's more in details, from this article :
https://www.muscleforlife.com/how-much-cardio/

> Research shows that endurance athletes are at a higher risk of heart dysfunction than the general, non-running public, and that the older they get and the more miles they log, the worse the problem gets.
> Research shows that marathoners develop more arterial plaque than sedentary non-runners, which increases the risk of stroke and dementia.
>The more cardio you do, the more you stress your body, and if take it too far, you can wind up in a state of chronic stress wherein your body can’t adequately recover from your workouts.
>Hang around dyed-in-the-wool endurance athletes for a bit and you’ll quickly notice how many people have trouble with their knees, backs, hips, tendons, and bones.

He links to some research articles that argue his point too.
>>
>>41659844
That's literally all it takes dude.
Says it's easy once you've done it consistently for a few months.
>>
>>41660145
>> Research shows that endurance athletes are at a higher risk of heart dysfunction than the general, non-running public, and that the older they get and the more miles they log, the worse the problem gets.

explain
>>
>>41660176
Well I'll explain what I understood from it, based on the research cited, particularly this article on atrial fybrillation in endurance athletes and the general population : https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19633305

The results of the study suggests that the risk of "heart disease" to be general, is much more common in the control group of athletes, than in the control group of "non-exercisers''.
> The overall risk of AF was significantly higher in athletes than in controls with odds ratio (95% confidence interval)=5.29 (3.57-7.85)

Though it's a very significant odds ratio, with very probant confidence interval, statistically speaking, it could be a false positive based on the methodology employed to select the sample of population: it's a meta analysis, which is basically a select sample of other studies's data and or results in order to draw a new analytical thesis. My point being, the data set might have been fabricated unreasonably.
I wish I had access to the whole article to further deconstruct the methodology of the experiment, but I can give you a read in on the results. studied statistical analysis and demography for a couple semesters.
>>
>>41660236
following up, I found the introduction of the article where the "research method" is presented :
> We searched in the large electronic databases: Pubmed, EMBASE, and Cochrane, for all available studies reporting cases of AF in athletes compared with controls.
Now that might be a clear case of over representation of a population sample in a study set based on the fact that they are more sensible to the "variant", ie here atrial fibrillation. So because there are more studies done on endurance athletes about heart conditions, they are likely to be over represented in the data set.
