I'm not a 18 year old enjoying newbie gains.
You cannot forever keep gaining strength, and doubly so as a natural.
The fact that you both think you can lift for "strength" long term and that that is somehow alpha or"macho" shows that you're both new to this and young.
Pushing yourself to your physical limits, getting injured and having fucked up joints in 3 years isn't something to actively pursue.
But anyway, you'll grow up, and either you will quit this hobby or realize what's sustainable and what matters.

nice 1988 cupboard
2/3/4/5 wasn't as satisfying as I thought it would be. I'd like to get back there someday, but not as a fat guy this time.

Either/or is a meme.

"Strongman competition"
Those people are usually super unhealthy and will lead a shorter life on average, with a far bigger risk of knee and leg injuries, cardiovascular diseases, cancers etc.
It doesn't matter if most of your bodyweight is muscle, if you're still overweight (which all strongmen are).

Bodybuilding makes you stronger than you "functionally" need to be.
You "functional strength" people are fatties who like to lift, but have given up/lack the willpower to lose weight.
>Lifting for strength
>not training for martial excellence, strength to weight ratio, explosive power, fight specific cardio (hiit bagwork, sprinting and skipping) and total body control using a mix of callisthenics, gymnastics, barbells and kettle bells in their rightful place
>being this much of a fucking mundane plebeian
Pure lifting is boring I legitimately prefer the conditioning sessions I can get in when I can convince my huge untrained friend to wail on me with sticks and his fists. Consider kys.

erryboddy missing the point
this is a reference for artists so they know what kind of physique to give their characters
it's not calling bodybuilders gay, just pointing out how and why their bodies develop compared to strongmen/powerlifters/labourers/whatever

Even in one of his books Rippletoe claims a tail end novice is one who can squat 315 for a set of 5 at 200 pounds and the same individual is more advanced once they can do 405 for 5 at 225 body weight. 1/2/3/4 should not be the jumping off point for gear. You can get a lot further as a natural
