The great gama did 3000 push ups and 5000 squats everyday
Wouldnt it lead into overtraining ? He was known for never losing a wrestling match so it probably worked to him
If he never lost it means his performance never declined (or he versed progressively worse opponents). He wouldn't have started out like that though so he obviously took years of training to cope with that regimen.

It goes insane very fast to the point you have to quit unless you have nothing else to do.
It's easy to imagine that he was gifted and also that it was the only things he has to do...

Over years and years his body probably adapted. If you look at modern wrestlers in India, you'll see that their entire life revolves aroudn the sport.
They practice wrestling for hours a day, get massages daily and do Hindu squats and pushups every day. The crazy thing is they are all vegetarians and are supposed to be straight edge and no sex.
Ghama was elite tier though. He had crazy endurance and strength that nobody at the time had. Some of the matches he was in lasted for 30 minutes or more. Of course he was very strong so some of them ended quickly but other wrestlers of that time would wrestle for an hour or more.

You would get used to it. Angelo Poffo, Randy Savage's father used to do thousands of sit ups at a time. Marathons and ultra marathons, same thing.
Much respect for Great Gama. He, Ad Santel, Farmer Burns and that whole era of wrestlers were superhuman before modern training.
