Just follow Recon Ron or Armstrong on top of whatever program you're doing.

Recon Ron got me to doing a full set of 20 with strict form in 3 months. 1 second dead hang pause at the bottom, then at the top of the pull you had pause with your chin over the bar and say what number you were on or it wasn't counted.

By definition, if a joint undergoes flexion/extension/rotation/etc, the associated muscle groups will be under tension.

Sounds like your knowledge of physiology is poor, actually. Your biceps will always be an auxiliary muscle used for any upper body pull movement, just as your triceps will always be an auxiliary muscle used on any upper body push movement.
