everytime i do a bulk, even when i'm relatively careful with caloric intake, i almost immediately gain a bunch of fat in my ass and stomach.
does anyone else experience this? any suggestions? not sure if i should tailor my diet/macros in a particular way, right now i get 1g/protein per lb of bodyweight (i weigh around 165lbs), then a pretty even split of carbs and fats.

That's pretty normal afaik, it's why people cut. Just set a weight goal and bulk as clean as you can until you hit it.

You can still see ab definition at that %. That's far too lean IMO. You won't make any progress doing such a small increase then immediately cutting back down

I was going pretty dirty (eating out a lot) but I've cleaned it up since -- I thought clean vs dirty didn't matter as much as just caloric intake

You cut when you cant stand to look at yourself in the mirror each morning. I would just bulk past that point too. No point in cutting down if you have no muscle to show.

On a bulk my macros are 60% protein 20% carbs 20% fat. Good way to minimise fat gainz while maximizing muscle gainz. Science makes sense sometimes desu.
