Actually, the benefits from electrolyte chews and glucose spikes are great for endurance athletes. It helps prevent muscle cramping, and is good for fatigue when the body has switched from using "carbs" to fat after about the first 20-40ish minutes of exercise. The same could be done with mustard and salt packets, but they don't taste as good and very widely from manufacturer to manufacturer. However, using Gatorade as your only source of intrasport nutrition is kind of silly. All in all, it's not crazy if it works.

What about just straight lifting? If i drink Gatorade instead of water at the gym would I be able to lift heavier?

Is lifting an endurance sport?
>>41524731
Depends on your routine.

Maybe not lift heavier but your electrolytes would get replenished vs. water and the simple carbs in Gatorade will keep muscle glycogen up.

To a certain extent, yes. Here's a good study if you can access it. If not, it's been summarised in the introduction page.

In my experience, drinking Gatorade while lifting increases my endurance. It helps especially to drink some before the second leg of the training session, so to speak. It won't help you lift any heavier, per say, but it will enable you to push through a long work out, and thereby increase your overall volume.

No it doesn't.
