As an okinawan guy, I have to say it's because of built-in portion control. Yeah, sure, we eat a lot of rice. But our portions are a lot smaller. It's really easy to feel full, and hard to overeat, because the "oh god this is too much food I've gotta stop or I'll vomit" urge kicks in very hard and very fast. I'll have like, a single egg over-easy on toast in the morning and be good until lunch.

The reason asians tend to be skinnier is down to a combination of factors including

Iodine deficiency is extremely common worldwide except in East and South-East Asian countries like Japan or the coastal parts of China and Taiwan due to their high consumption of seafood and seaweed-derived dishes and products. They have the healthiest thyroids in the world on average, minus some areas where goiter is spread, which are usually rural villages far away from the ocean and with no access to significant iodine sources.

Bear in mind that what big pharma considers to be a "healthy-level" of thyroid function is bullshit because the range is way too damn wide, and their RDA is very low due to a meme from the 1940's called the Wolff-Chaikoff effect, which is a purely fictional condition that was never observed in lab tests, not in lab rats or in humans, and it supposedly arises from a sustained iodine intake of over 200 mcg (a mere 1/60th of a lot of Asians are consuming on a daily average) over time, so they made their RDA so it's JUST ENOUGH to avoid hypothyroidism, and nowhere near enough to maintain a healthy thyroid. This is all ignoring the fact that Lugol's Solution (a solution of iodine, potassium iodide, and distilled water. Usually has like 1-5 mg of net iodine per drop) was widely used in the military before WWII to treat iodine deficiency, hypothyroidism, and even hyperthyroidism with flying colors.

Big Pharma benefits from this meme by selling patients and getting them hooked for life on the meme-drug thyroxine, instead of giving patients successful treatments like lugol's solution, aside from WC-effect, their other argument is "muh-radioactive iodine", which is actually harmful, but a healthy intake of potassium/potassium-iodide protects the thyroid from absorbing radioactive iodine.

In short, sort yourself out.

Iodized salt was introduced somewhere in the 1940's in the USA when a spread goiter was observed in the more rural areas of North America, and sure, it worked over time, but it was only just enough to treat goiter, and nowhere near enough to treat iodine deficiency.

There are dietary changes aside from taking iodine+potassium-iodide solutions (Lugol's solution is the generic term) that you can make, and that is raising and diversifying your seafood intake, and throwing seaweed in there too. I hope you'll pardon the pun, but this claim seems awfully fishy. Why do humans require so much iodine if they evolved on the plains, presumably without access to the fish and seaweed you argue is necessary for the body to function properly? I don't put too much stock by arguments like the one I'm making in general, but it seems like a very bold claim to say that all diets except for a "coastal-Asian-like" diet are biologically incomplete.

The thyroid organ is actually inherited from when we were aquatic creatures and had a massive supply of iodine. I just buy a head of cauliflower and grate it on a cheese grater, no need for a food processor.

Throw that shit in a pan with some olive oil and a little bit of water, cover it for a minute to soften it a bit, and add some salt and pepper for taste. Its a beautiful replacement to stay keep carbs low.

Don't really have any recipes because I just use it in place of rice, so whatever you rice for use it instead. Delicious in stuffed peppers however.

Very true, memetic supplements like kelp for example, just provide 150-200 mcg of iodine, they're suggested to patients who show symptoms of hypothyroidism but aren't quite there. In the end, they'll still get hypothyroidism, and they wasted money over a meme. Lugol's solution however is legit because the iodine/potassium-iodide is so high in comparison and is more in line with what we should be consuming.
