How should I be doing face pulls as a novice? What kind of reps/weight?
Also how do you even stand like that without just toppling over when you try to pull? There's nothing to hold your legs.

I usually do it by setting one leg forward where I lean on, and the other leg behind me for stability. Try it yourself to find the what gives the most stability.
I drive one foot into the ground and let the forward force go into earth

squeeze and hold at the end of the rep. Try to do it in controlling manner. Start with a weight that you can do 4x12 then increase the reps to 4x20. Then increase the weight.

Facepulls are like rowing and thus should be done heavy 3x5 to assist your pulling exercises.

i do 5 sets of 20. If i can finish all the sets (i don't fail on my last), in slightly increase the weight. It's one of the best exercises you can do for back development and posture, along pull ups.

I use the crossover cable machines for facepulls, and to stabilize I just anchor using one of my foot against the steel bar
I only do 1RM's on facepulls and my shoulders are huge
