What do you do between sets? I rest 5-7 minutes between my heavy sets and I just find myself awkwardly looking at my phone and avoiding eye contact with other people. There has to be a better way
Wow, that's incredibly ineffective use of your time. Look up "active rest". I usually do isolations of some other muscle group in the meantime. If I do heavy squats, I can do preacher curls or something else while resting my legs.
But some studies indicate that doing very light and careful reps of the same, or similar, exercise works better to recover the muscles being worked.

are you a powerlifter or what?
resting more than 3-5 minutes is just excessive

No just I'm just doing 5x5 strength training. I have shit cardio and I can only complete my sets if I rest a lot. I find 5x5 incredibly taxing. I thought I had good cardio because I can easily cycle 50km or so. Guess I was wrong.

That's interesting. If I'm doing something like pullups I'll do some facepulls as a super set, but If I'm doing squats or deadlifts I find myself too exhausted to really do anything.

be like the crossfit fags and run circles around the gym getting in everybody's way, then autistically screech at anyone who tries to use your barbell
>>41500460
interesting. I was doing 5x5 for the past year, with 3 min rests and virtually no cardio (cause running in windy/rainy Scotland sucks)
isn't also possible that you are going way too heavy?
I would suggest reading news/longreads/articles on your phone, makes the time fly by

I do the same but people are actually trying to make eye contact with me bcus beastmode, usually some little twink makes eye contact with me I fuck his ego up, anyway I avoid contact between sets and focus on breathing and psyching myself up and finding the right song to max gains
shitty thread, kys op

>you are going way too heavy
I second this. Even if TM for example says you should do 90% of your 5rm on volume day, it's probably too much at first, for lower body at least. I could bench and ohp 90% of my 5rm for 5x5 no prob but only like 70% for squat and deadlifts at first. I added 10% to the intensity every 2 weeks until I got to the prescribed 90%.
