Why do fat girls who run 5Ks insist they are fit? I have girls like this in my office and they eat sweets at their desk and wear crosstrainers acting like they know anything about health.
>>
5k seems like a long way to someone who literally never moves
>>
They often don't even run it
>>
>>41463722
not if you don't have a time limit

>getting mad about fat people embracing fitness without trying to be fit.

Fix'd
>>
>>41463738
This

They walk it and it takes them an hour to walk 3 miles and afterwards they stuff their face at the bar with wings and beer.

Fuck them
>>
>>41463753
Just because a fatass buys training clothes and goes to shitty group workout one day of a month while still eating/drinking garbage doesn't mean they suddenly are fit and "work out on their free time".

Sure its nice that they are at least doing something compared to other "people" but some people literally think they will get fit just because they take 5min walks.
>>
>>41463738
"run" means faster than 8 minutes to a mile
"jog" means faster than 10 minutes to a mile
"hump" means faster than 15 minutes to a mile
anything slower is walking
only running is impressive

>>41463743
if they don't break 25 min then i am not impressed
if they don't break 30 min then they're not fit

>>41463682
just look at them and ironically say their distance and how long it took them and then say "running" with sarcastic voice

What percent of /fit/ can do a 5k in under 24 minutes?
>>
I'm about to run a 5k for the first time, like what's the bare minimum to be passable, like okay you barely make it it's ok time
>>
>>41464178
I'm going to say less than 10%
>>
>>41463682
How do you wear a cross trainer?
>>
>>41464193
If you can't get faster than 30 minutes I would be embarrassed. That's about 9:40 a mile.
>>
>>41464193
25min
>>
> I do 5k 4 times a week and will occasionally do 20k+ on sunday mornings if I want to chill out.
> A couple of fatties in my office are doing couch to 5k and acting like it's the most difficult thing in the world.

I literally accidentally ran 5.5k today after only intending to run 1 mile. I had two versions of an album on my sansa at different bit rates and I wanted to see if I could tell the difference - I got sidetracked and ended up running for 25 mins.
>>
>>41464195
Nah, a 24 minute 5k takes like 2 weeks of training to accomplish for an average male, these /fit/ lift bros should be able too
>>
>>41463682

People who don't run think 5k is a long distance. Look at that episode of the office where they're all getting hyped about running (toby normally has to take bathroom breaks in the middle of a 5k, michael carb loading, andy taping up his nipples and drafting). The writers are clearly clueless.
>>
>>41464178
hopefully a lot, 24 minutes is a shit time desu
>>
>>41464889

Yeah just like a 315 squat takes about 2 weeks of training. For the AVERAGE male, a 24 minute 5k is months of training, easily
>>
>>41464940
That was a funny episode
>>
>>41463761

I had an overweight classmate who "ran" a 5k. She used it as a tool to stay in denial about how unhealthy she was.

"Being big is genetic I'm actually really healthy. I ran a 5k 2 weeks ago. Brb going to taco bell"
>>
>>41464264

Were you able to tell the difference?
>>
>>41464178
>not running it under 18 minutes
>>
>>41465271
>>41464221
>>41464210

So which one is it guys? Am I supposed to run it in 30, 25 or 18?

I've never ran before
>>
18:00 is a respectable time for a 5K. 20:00 is good for an average guy who does fitness stuff. 22:00 is acceptable only for those who have just started. Anything slower is unacceptable and you should be working harder before you can even say you run.
>>
>>41465270

320kbps is louder than 128 when you're running full speed. That's all I really cared about.
>>
>>41465358
It's not that it's louder. The higher frequencies just make sounds more distinguishable and easier to compare and contrast from normal bodily sounds, wind, etc.
>>
>>41465354
>>41465354
>and you should be working harder before you can even say you run.

I do run, what do you mean just because I can't run that fast I can't say I run?
>>
>>41465396
Its like going to the gym as a skeleton and doing curls for the first time and saying you lift weights. That's not how it works. Just because you curled 20 pounds doesn't mean you lift, just like running doesn't mean you run.
>>
>>41464178
You aren't fit if you take more than 20.
>>
>>41465314

The winning male may run the 5K course somewhere between 13-15 minutes and the winning female may run it in the 16-19 minute range. Some walkers may take over an hour to finish. Most people feel good about finishing in the 20-25 minute range (6:26/mile to 8:21/mile pace).
>>
>>41465422

At what point can you say you lift, and at what point can you say you run?
>>
>>41465466
when it becomes a regularly scheduled thing in your life
>>
>>41463682

>>
>>41465482
>45 minute time

What the fuck? Was she even trying? Even the slowest people finish in 30min

Also did you or her break up and why?
>>
>>41465512
idk man i was never able to get her as motivated about getting in shape as i was

i broke up with her because there was a lot of insecurity, mental health problems, and trust issues that were affecting my happiness and health
>>
>>41463682
Isn't 5K only like 3 miles? That's nothing. If you can't do a half marathon jogging (as per stated definition) you're out of shape.
>>
>>41463753
>Embracing
From all sides at the same time when they're that fat.
>>
>>41465314
18 if you are serious about running, under 25 if you aren't.

If you're halfway decent you should get around 20, assuming male and flat course.
>>
>>41464178
I can run 5k 22 min and half marathon in 1:34. Been running about 4 years, and was a fatass when started.

I started lifting seriously around 18 months ago and have been seeing my lifts improve. It's MUCH slower progress though and I still look like shit...
>>
>>41465621

After 18 months?
>>
>>41463682
These 5k tards are topkek to me. On an average day on my job I easily walk 7.5 km, in a suit and dress shoes. On an average day sight seeing I've clocked 16 km without getting a muscle ache, and these crisco guzzlers need to "train" for a 5k.
>>
>>41465475
When you are good at it to a point that people are impressed.
It might be insecure as fuck, but it applies very well to people.
>>
>>41465354
Depends on the course and what distance you're specialising in mate.

An ultramarathon or marathon runner would NOT likely have as fast 5k time as someone who specialises in 5-10ks.

I'll run 8-12 miles every weekend at around an 8-8.5 minute mile pace but struggle to go too much faster over shorter distances.

You train endurance and speed differently using different methods
>>
>>41464178
I can run 5k on a treadmill in about 20-22, I have a long stride so I guess that helps. I haven't been running outdoors because the weather and pollution have been bad but on a good day I remember doing about the same outside as inside.
>>
>>41465645
Heh I didn't word that right.

More like very gradually over the 18 months.

That's probably because I cut from 14stone down to 10 through running and diet, with basically zero muscle mass. Have slow bulked back up to 11 stone now. Progress has been made, but a irritatingly I have a small gut again. Can still fit 30 inch jeans though (down from 36) so I'll take a minor win
>>
my god im disgusted with myself. Ive been walking 5/6 k daily and it takes me 40 - 50 minutes. im not in a hurry but im sad how far ive let myself go.
>>
>>41465621
you're telling me you can run a half-marathon at only just below your 5k pace? wtf?
>>
What the fuck you guys told me not to run because it's bad for your knees and legs and shit and all of a sudden all of you run??
>>
>>41465809
it's bad if you're super overweight or have bad form
>>
>>41465817

What do you mean bad form? Shit, have I been running wrong this entire time?
>>
Someone post that infographic
>>
>>41465779
I know, this is odd! I have only just started 5ks since I wanted to work on speed (Parkrun is great in the UK for this and you get decent timing).
The course was relatively hilly (ie winning time was 18:15, I was 26 out of about 3-400)

Half marathons on the other hand: I have run 5 now, and got my time down from 2:05 to the time I posted earlier. Guess I find it hard pushing much faster than I already do....
>>
>>41465846
usually heel striking and such, just look up vids of what proper running form looks like

That + having good shoes makes a TON of difference
>>
>>41465875
My 5k pb (set yesterday) is 19:22, while my half is 1:39 (set about a month ago). Based on that it sounds like you could probably aim for a sub 19 5k
>>
>>41465846
There is literally nothing wrong with running. Criticising it is, in my opinion, a meme. Heck, even Scooby loves running and cycling.

The issue is people who have never run before running in incorrect shoes, while overweight, doing too much too soon etc. For example, many runners strike with their heels. This is potentially damaging long term, but can be fixed through 1) wearing running shoes that match your gait (get advice from a decent running store, they will analyse your running style) or 2) altering your gait through barefoot running etc.

Tldr the human body is literally designed for running. It's not for everyone, but if you enjoy it is a great form of cardio
>>
>deadlifting anything less that 135 is like running a 5k; it doesn't count and neither do you
>>
>>41465910
Firstly: congrats on the pb dude. We're all gonna make it.

Secondly: it's nice to have some people on fit who actually know about running and are not just "lulz running is gay kek". I'll take your advice on this and push my shorter distances harder
>>
>>41465916
one weird thing that i found worked for me was having a pair of really minimal, zero drop running shoes and rotating them in with my regular running shoes

it does help to improve form with regular running shoes first though, above all.

im pretty sure my experience is totally anecdotal but having to adjust to running in "barefoot" shoes improved my form and then going back to my regular shoes left me with good form but it felt like i was running on super comfy pillows because of the padding.

interesting feeling, to say the least

No idea OP. I honestly thought it was something you just did for fun unless you're going for top teir times than you train for it. I was quite shocked people trained and felt accomplished and "finished" to have just ran one.

I was 18 at the time. I ran up until middle school and then stopped, and got to 220 at 6'0". Then I lifeguarded for a summer and lost 40 lbs just sitting in the sun. That fall I started exercising.

Obviously a lot of people have to train up to it, but I didn't realize it was seen as the finish line. Running at least 30 minutes without breaks just seems like something you should be able to do unless you're tragically out of shape.

>>
The tail "runner" at my local parkrun last Saturday took over 58 minutes to complete the course because he has to stay behind the last person. I ran it with my 6 year old nephew because I had a 10 mile race on the Sunday and we did it in 28:29 and his pb is under 27 minutes.

How pathetic must you be when a 6 year old can run 5k 30 minutes quicker than you? It also only took me 9 minutes more to run a hilly 10 miles than it did for them to waddle around a flat 5k. The worst part is how everyone cheers them when they finish their slow walk yet when I run it in 18 minutes no one gives a shit.
