Personally, I would go straight to the source and get involved with on-campus shit. Student counsels, volunteer organizations, RAs, newspapers, etc. Generally just get your name/picture attached to the school's website. It would help you get into all sorts of job/internship memes, but it also attracts that same sort of person who wants to "meet new people at college" and "have a social life that respects my schoolwork." I think you could even be successful in a liberal arts major if you were involved on campus (and barked like a dog for opportunities).
