I saw a someone in the gym today doing deadlifts with only socks on. Is this a new technique /fit/?

Actually yes, many lifting/running shoes add hieght to the heal but not the toes, this isn't a natural position for dead lifting. Socks, slippers or even chuck Taylor's are good. Opposite goes for squats, you want a higher heal so you can for more of your weight on it

being barefoot reduces rom by like an inch. pretty worthless unless you are going for PR

problem is, if you are wearing running shoes to gym, they have this small areas filled with air which should reduce impact during running... If you are DLing with these you can strap your favourite pillow on and lift with that...

speak for yourself, i have spoopy long legs and a short torso and it helps a lot

these, if you're wearing running shoes you're best off taking them off as you'll be more stable when lifting heavy
Its not new at all.
Anyone who is serious about deadlifting won't do it in shoes. Or if they do, itll be super thin flat shoes like wrestling shoes.

>doing deadlifts naked
How are they not getting kicked out?
Lifting barefoot is great if you don't have lifting shoes.

I'd lift barefoot all the tike if I could get away with it. It feels great, much more stable. I squat and DL without shoes, I feel connected to the ground, therefore more solid. Helps with feeling where you have the weight too, you end up being more concious of being too far forward or back more.
Lifting in running shoes is garbage, you need flat shoes with uncompressable soles, or purpose WL shoes. Luckily no one has said anything about my barefoot lifting yet, some gyms are anal about that shite.
