Anyone else here reached the 2 plate bench press? I did it after 2 years and it feels great, I barely got it on the rack but I did it for 1 complete rep

>tfw finally in the big league

>tfw was ten pounds away before shoulder injury
>haven't lifted in 2 months, probably can't bench press for at least another month

Some day.
>>
225 is the average bench club m8. 315 is starting to get into the big league

This. 225 is the expectation for someone who lifts

The average person struggles with 40 kg on the bar. After I've become fit, a few of my friends were so impressed that they start to get fit too. Everyone of them started with 30-45 bench.

Hit it for 3 last session. Felt pretty easy, could have gotten 5 I think but didn't have a spot.

Where are all these people benching 225+ in the first five months in the gym? I've been to a couple dozen different gyms and the amount of people benching 155, let alone 225 for reps is like 1/12. The average bench weight I see is 135 for varying reps and the heaviest bench I've seen in person is 475. Ever.

I weight 165lbs at 6 feet, should I be putting up 225 natty? Been lifting serious for 6 months and only at 145lbs (1 plate w/ 5lbs plate). I do this for 3 reps and 8 sets.

Am I gonna make it?

I'm an actual personal trainer in a University gym and almost every single untrained male starts with 115 for five with good form. Sometimes less. Rarely more. If they did sports in highschool or something they usually start at 135. In 1 year of personal training (not a lot but more than you) I've never seen someone start with 155x5 with good form, and people have tried.

this is me too... I think at best I hit a double at 225 and a single at 235... I hit 275 on the smith machine just fucking around though... not sure really what to think about that one other than it was great because I never have a spotter
>>
when do i need a spotter for benching?
why do i even need one in the first place? what can happen if i dont have a spotter?
>>
>>41243529
225 incline bench for one
260 flat bench for one
155 lbs
>haven't lifted in four weeks
Fuck injuries I'm gonna have to start all over now
>>
>>41245013
225 really isnt that much, I still do 135 for warm up sets and 205 for my 5x5... 225 is a 1rm for quite a few people and I am relatively small at 5'10 185 so someone around the same height but closer to 200 should be able to put up a few extra pounds.
>>
The other day I had a guy claim he could bench 300 lbs before he was on roids, is that even possible to do naturally?

I bench 150 and I'm stronger than most people I know
>>
>>41246028
>>41246246
I'm the opposite. I've never actually done barbell bench. I started out at Planet Fitness and refused to use the Smith machines, so I got in the habit of doing dumbbell flat bench and incline bench, even after switching to a different gym with better equipment.

I do 60 lb dumbbells on flat bench for 3x10. Nothing to brag about. I'm going to start benching with a barbell soon and I'm curious how different it will be.
>>
>>41246372
Iktf bro, I'm way more swole than most people I know and I can only bench 205 once

>>41246386

jesus. either you're all pathetic as fuck or i'm way stronger than the average guy. i've always thought those were weights you do for reps, 5x5 at least. i probably got to the equivalent of 1/2/3/4 in like less than a year then lmao

Wait, holy shit. Are you serious?

I've always thought that people were full of shit when they said that 225 was weak. The biggest guys at my gym can barely bench 3x5 255 pounds. Now it makes much more sense.
>>
i was literally a wow playing nerd who just barely got laid in highschool late senior year, and i benched 225 after some training

225 is "ok, so you have a dick" tier
>>
>>41243529

I did for two complete reps and barely missed a third.

That was about three months ago and I havent tried since. But It was a hell of an accomplishment after like 8 months of solid lifting.
>>
So much bro-science, so little fact. Check out www.strengthstandards.co for a fairly accurate view of your strength given your weight and height. The Epley algorithm is considered the best and is pretty accurate at a variety of body fat % at a given weight.

Bench standards are notoriously varied. Are you pausing at your chest? Are you using leg drive and a good arch? Are you geared or using a belt? Comparing two numbers to each other is literally a waste of time unless they're both from powerlifters from the same federation, same weight class, benching to the same standard with good technique. Learning how to use your legs and low back can add 50-80lbs to your bench without any increase in actual strength and is perfectly legal/expected for serious lifters.
>>
6 months from being a 75kg 5'8 manlet to 70kg still a manlet
125kg 1rm max
115kg 5x5

That was 18 months ago, been lifting for 2 years and I've switched to PPL high rep dumbbell routine with boxing. I probably can't bench 115kg anymore confidently without a spot.

575 is nuffin i spotted Andrew Collura during a 650lb bench and that bar flew up
>>
>>41249087
No joke that 650lb Collura bench was nuts
no wraps, no belt, no arch and RPE8

could've gone 700+ if he pursued it but went into BB like a fucking cookie cutter

m8, have you ever worked in an office? You know how many people can lift an 18L hug of water? It's pathetically small. 125 is herculean compared to the miraculous feat of strength that is a jug of water.

xplate represents the amount of 20kg/45lbs plates on the bar

1plate = one 20kg/45lb plate on each side of the bar = 60kg/135lbs

2plate = 100kg/225lbs

etc.

Got my bench up to 440 touch and go (405 pause), then I hurt my shoulder unracking a fucking warm up set at a shitty gym because the pins were too low and far back.

I took some time off and I've been to heaps of physios and they just tell me my shoulder is tight and give me the same stretches and rotator cuff exercises that I have been doing for like 6 months now with no improvement.

Every time I get to 225 I get pain. I still have the strength to bench like 385 but if I do my shoulder is crippled the next day.

Dunno what do. Doctor for mri or something or directly to some kind of shoulder specialist? The physios seem useless it's not improving.
>>
I hate my poverty bench.

I don't know if it's because I've been lifting on a deficit or because long arms but I feel like I can barely break lmao1plaet for 5 or 8 reps.

I don't know what that translates to in terms of 1RM but it's sad.
>>
>>41243529

I got to it after 10 months
>>
>>41249278
MRI perhaps? at least then you'll know the exact nature of the injury to either self treat or squeeze some sense out of physios.

Yeah that sounds smart

It seems like common sense, feel like I've almost been in denial that something is actually wrong so I've been putting off taking it more seriously, but I should just do this

The number of males betwen 15-65 is 2,234,860,865 (or 30%). Just by benching 40 kg you are already in the top 30%. Considering then that the majority of the population lives in asia or africa and don't have access to the gym or proper nutritiun, you are propably somewhere along the top 5% with just 50kg. And then you have to consider that the vast majority of the people never have seen a gym from inside and have no idea what proper nutrition is, except for the vegtebales meme, you are already 1% with 60 or maybe 70kg. 100kg is very high for the normal human beeing, and even for the normal gym goer (i rarely see anyone doing 80kg, let alone 100kg). 100 kg may be small in the powerlifting or bodybuilding world, but you should not forgett that they make up maybe 0.001% of the human population.

Welcome to /fit/ where everyone benched 2plate+ for reps in their first 6 months.

Considering how many of you rep that shit like it's nothing why is it that you never see anyone even go past 80kg in most gyms.
>>
>>41248976
Yes.
>>
>>41249776
It depends on where you lift desu, in commercial gyms I had an old man tell me that 70 kg is far too much weight and I will hurt myself when I was a novice. Meanwhile in black iron gym >>41249712 I can count on one hand the number of people that can bench less than 2pl8
>>
>>41249776
why do people who go on fitness forums for information improve faster than people who just throw around weights without a clue?
I'm stumped desu
>>
>>41249722
Was actually doing wrist curls superset with overhand bicep curls
>>
>>41249904
Cuz e-stats, /fit/ is full of e-stats.

Go to any cbt and notice how no one lifts the numbers claimed by random anons.

Like less than 1% of here even bench 3plate
>>
>>41245013
>Where are all these people benching 225+ in the first five months in the gym?

They are fat as fuck.
>>
>>41245686
It's absolutely possible. I know a couple 300lb benchers who are definitely lifetime natty, and that's just in my social circle.
>>
>>41245912
>can i reach 225 bench on starting strength?
> or do linear gains stop before that?

They depends entirely on your weight and age.

If you're over 200lbs and under 30, it's probably possible.

If you weigh 150 and don't want to gain a ton of weight, you will stall hard before reaching 225 bench on SS
>>
>>41249415
There's no way you can bench 1pl8.
>>
>>41249938
>if I can't do it, no one can!
2 plaet isn't all that much, especially if you played footy and that as a kid
>>
Don't waste time thinking about 225, it's just a fad. Set you goal for your actual body weight. If you weigh 165, then you should at least be able to rep that once, if you can't set that as your goal. If you can rep you weight, work on repping your body weight 10 X. Remember this, with size comes strength, with strength comes power, you cat get one without the other. Set you own reasonable goals and don't worry about the fads, keep it basic keep it simple. Eat good, plenty of rest, 3 to 5 workouts a week, don't over work it and your BP will go up. DO NOT max all the time try you one rep max once every 3 months to gauge your process. And change your exercises every four weeks.

I did a 2pl8 AMRAP today
>did 8 reps
>>
And who actually cares about a one rep max unless you are a power lifter. I know guys that can bench well over 300 but they can only rep 225 eight or nine X. I challenge them all the time, I rep 225 26 X. It's called muscle endurance.... I don't know what my one rep max is, I work my way up to 315 X three to five reps, then I am done on BP that day. Again, forget about all that one rep max crap, set you goals for reps, with size comes strength, with strength comes power.

2p8s is two 45 lbs weights on one side of the bar
3p8s is 3

etc.
