I’m really glad that I can finally speak about this with to people other than my therapist. The reason I started lifting was:

- I’m really skinny

- Because of that, people treat me like garbage.

- On top of that, my confidence if a nightmare.

- I can’t talk to girls

- I’m tired of being PERCEIVED as weak and spineless.

- Went to an art college and had intellectuals treat me like trash.

- I’m working on my style, but it’s still not enough to actually get respect.

-I feel like I have to fight for basic respect that I’m owed as a human being.

- I’m tired of being a thirsty-ass dude.

- I stopped watching porn a few months ago.

- Maybe then my friends will treat me with respect.

- That in the grand scheme of things, the world is a terribly superficial place. The only way that I’ll succeed is if I meet society at least halfway.

Inevitably, it’s been long overdue since I started lifting. I was a pudgy loser in high school; I had the perfect body for weight training but I couldn’t get off my ass. But once college hit I started working on over-night projects and writing papers until morning. I ate fewer meals and more empty calories I could get my hands on. I was stressing out about projects, having sex, and drinking more caffeine. I went from 205 to roughly 170 in 1½ semesters. I wish I could gain a little mass to sculpt that out. So now I’m starting from ground zero as a scrawny little thing.

So in the end, OP, I lift for myself. I lift because I hate myself and I'm over it. So I can tell people to go fuck themselves and have the ground to say it. And bitches.
