>>

conventional deadlifts are a high risk high reward lift, plenty of aesthetic kunts don't do them and plenty do

>>
>>41118858
Deadlifts aren't high risk if you're not a retard. The most fundamental movement to every human is the hip hinge. picking something up off the floor happens in everyday life. Barring physical deformities, deadlifts are probably the safest exercise to do.
>>
>>41118879
Deadlifts might be the safest exercise in the world if you're a pussy bitch using low weights with 'perfect form' and high reps. But if you are what's the fucking point in doing deadlifts?

When you're pulling heavy ass weights there's no way in the world they're the safest exercise, that's just a load of fucking bollocks
>>
>>41118879
>Barring physical deformities, deadlifts are probably the safest exercise to do.

Ego-lifting with deadlifts and doing them 3x a week?

That is a recipee for a life ruining injury. That's not me being a dick, that's me being honest.

You can't even do high rep deadlifts without a huge risk of going to snap city.

They should be used sparringly and only with moderately heavy weight. Anything else is just powerlifting for the sake of powerlifting.

Full of shit. I've been doing squats and deadlifts 3x a week for the past 4-5 months gaining 8kg of muscle, and my midesection looks better than ever. It's when you train your obliques like boxers do or go extremely heavy with them that you get those midsections like a powerlifter. FULL OF SHIT.
>>
>>41118879
Actually if I lifted an object heavy from the floor in real life it'd look nothing like a deadlift. I'd use asymmetry, a rocking motion, momentum, more like a leg press, etc. There's no reason to hit your spinal erectors that hard ever nor do you ever lift an implement like a straight barbell.
>>
>>41118906
It's not heavy ass weight if you trained up to it properly, then it's just working weight.

You're just a punk bitch who's scared to do deads because you catbacked on 2pl8 and convinced yourself that it wasn't safe.

>>41118927
you're doing it wrong m8. Deadlifts are in the hips not the spinal erectors. Shift the weight closer to mid-foot. Yes your low back gets worked, but if you work up to the weight, you build the strength necessary to move it.

As for everyone else, learn proper bracing retards.
>>

Holy fugg your dumb. Deadlift targets primarly the erector spinae, gluteus maximus and biceps femoris. See
http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/ErectorSpinae/BBDeadlift.html
>>
>>41118954
Believe it or not, there are 2 people that pull 600lb's.

Elite lifters who trained up to that weight and can do it injury free

and egolifting retards who injure themselves.

AGAIN:

>deadlifts aren't high risk if you're not a retard

saying you're not gonna do deadlifts because you can't deadlift 600lb's safely is the same thing as saying you're not gonna bench because you can't bench 315.

you're an actual retard.
>>
>>41118971

they load the spinal erectors, but the glutes are the main driving force.

>yes your low back gets worked, but if you work up to the weight, you build the strength necessary to move it.

Of course your erectors are going to get loaded, but the majority of power on a deadlift is driven through glutes/hips.

God damn you're stupid. Deadlift hits the erector spinae harder than any other lift. The only thing that competes with it is weighted hyperextensions. I just posted a link showing it targets primarily the erector spinae. Nobody is taking retard anons advice. Quit posting retard.
>>
>>41119085
It IS easy. I haven't done any deadlifting for 3 months, since I've been focusing on my squats and rows. Today I decided to pick up a heavy weight and I'd added nearly 50lbs to my max and hit 510.

Squatting is just a better, more functional movement than deadlifting. Debate that, you faggots.
>>
>>41119101
You've quite literally never held 400lbs or more in your hands, please try actually consistently lifting for a few years before spouting off
>>
>>41119086
then why the fuck are you even lifting. Yes no movement is technically essential, but good luck making gains on cables and Pilates then. When talking about whether a lift is safe to do, 2 things should apply.

1) That individual biomechanics

2) The actual safety of the exercise.

barring physical deformities, deadlifts are probably the safest exercise you can do to gain strength assuming they are executed properly (which isn't hard to do since they require the least amount of mobility and start from the floor as opposed to being on top of you)
>>41119085
fuck me right? approaching 4pl8 after first year and everybody here is saying they'll kill you.

>>
>>41119138
Why are you pretending you know shit when you've quite literally never held 400lbs in your hands? it's embarassing

of course deadlifts are extremely safe when you're lifting bitch weight
>>
>>41119119
My dl is 475 you fucking cuck. Try it next time you retard.

You place the weight under your scapula over mid foot an inch from your shin. You load the weight onto your posterior chain and imitate rolling back while keeping everything below your hips in place, this leverages your weight and naturally pulls the weight up. You drive down with your heels HARD and lift with your back at the same time. This makes the pull off the floor easier and you accomplish the lift without overloading the erector spinae you catbacking fuck head.

Kill yourself you weak faggot.
>>
>>41119138
>deadlifts are probably the safest exercise you can do to gain strength assuming they are executed properly
that's a mighty big assumption to make considering new lifters are gonna have tight everything and likely be unable to losen up properly and unless they have long arms, will have a very bent over back angle. the people i always see claiming deadlifts are so safe always have monkey arms, short or on aas.
>>
>>41119109
yes, but again, the main driving force of a deadlift, the place where you get all your power, is the glutes.

Just because it loads the erectors more than other exercises, does not mean it's the primary mover. If you tried Deadlifting anything higher than 2pl8 with just your back, you'd understand why.
>>
Do deadlifts help posture?
How did diddyliffs help your posture?
>>
>>41119183
>driving force
is a buzzword. the proper terminology for the mucles used which primarily move the weight are called, wait for it, primary target.

the primary muscles used to move the weight in the deadlift are the hamstrings, ass and low back muscles. not one or the other, all three, which make up the posterior chain.

now quit posting you shit eating retard.
>>
>>41119181
you don't actually need that much mobility for a deadlift. Squats take longer to adjust to.

most people who improperly execute deadlifts because of weird proportions, tightness, etc. can usually adjust with minor mobility work or switching to sumo.

>>41119177
you're acting like 400lb's is a lot of weight. I'm just in my first year of lifting and I'm already approaching your standard. 400+ lb's will be had in a few months.
>>
>>41118968
>>Deadlifts aren't high risk if you're not a retard
Name five fucking pro lifters who deadlift regularly who aren't fucking injured.
I'll fucking wait.

Even power lifters and strong men will tell you that you will end up getting injured from any lift.

Perfect form every time is a perfect world scenario. Not reality.

You will eventually fuck it up if you have high frequency.
This is why if you only want to get more fit and healthier that you should do DLs SPARRINGLY.
>>
>>41119216
deadlifts and rows fixed my forward head posture. I naturally stand up tall now.
>>41119217
holy shit du, do you bench with your shoulders too, or do you use your shoulders to stabilize the weight and use your chest to move it?
>>
>>41119232
>can usually adjust with minor mobility work or switching to sumo.
that couldn't be any further from the truth. people spend their whole lives trying to gain mobility and mobility comes with consequences. people are the way they are for a raisin. furthermore sumo isn't a drop in replacement as it requires a specific hip structure which cannot be fixed by mobility.
>>
>>41118386
no, absolutely not

you don't 'need' any single lift to get aesthetic, progressive overload on a reasonable selection of exercises tailored to your goal is what really matters

this literally applies to every other lift, which means that if one where to ask if deadlifts were safe, that would be in comparison to other lifts, which I would say yes to.

of course injuries happen, but that's just part of the game. If you want to truly look good, there is some risk involved no matter what.

>>
>>41119256
>holy shit du, do you bench with your shoulders too, or do you use your shoulders to stabilize the weight and use your chest to move it?
false comparison. bench press does indeed use a ton of anterior deltoid, almost as much as ohp but it isn't primarily targeted by it. if you can go heavy enough with bench you would be working your front delts quite heavily.
>>
>>41119258
people who have mobility issues regarding conventional can sometimes adjust by using sumo or mobility exercises.

as for people spending their whole lives gaining mobility, I agree, but for the deadlift in particular, it can be the easiest exercise to execute with shit mobility thus making it safer in my eyes to many other exercises.

and people are the way they are because they sit on their ass all day watching tv after coming home from a 9-5 in a cubicle.
>>
>>41119291
right, but it's not the primary power driver. Just like the erectors shouldn't be, which means that they, even though are loaded, aren't loaded to a point that they can be injured if you work up to the weight properly. Get what I'm saying? If you catback your deadlifts and your hams and glutes go into hiding and you end up squatting up the weight with your back rounded, yes, your spinal erectors are going to explode, but if you use your glutes/hams/hips to get the weight up and you just keep your back straight using the erectors, you'll be fine so long as you work up to the weight and strengthen your erectors, just like every other lift. Same thing with bench and shoulders.
>>
>>41119317
>and people are the way they are because they sit on their ass all day watching tv after coming home from a 9-5 in a cubicle
yeah i see this false logic repeated all the time. elite athletes have "shit mobility" too only if you improved it in certain regards you'd be completely fucking them over. changing the way your body moves enough to gain mobility can have a cascading effect which causes the body to move in detrimental ways it's not used. to put it simply, these issues aren't a simple fix and thus assuming any noob should be able to deadlift is patently false.
>>
>>41119351
and that's wrong. the entire posterior chain is ghe primary whatever term you want to invent which includes PRIMARILY the lumbar erectors. quit posting you fucking retard.
>>
>>41119354
>barring physical deformities
>the individual's biomechanics

I'm basing my opinion on the average person.

>>41119368
Ok, let's say that's the case right, what's the problem with strengthening your erectors through progressive overload just like any other lift? On the topic of safety, they are no worse than bench or squat.

on the topic of necessity, sure you don't have to do them, but it would take you a lot longer to get the results you want by substituting deadlifts.

there's no average person. an average would be derived by a group that's radically different.

> what's the problem with strengthening your erectors through progressive overload just like any other lift
That's not at question.

>but it would take you a lot longer to get the results you want by substituting deadlifts
True but you'd also be getting more out of it. For example if you did rack pulls + hamstring curls you could load the back/traps a lot more with a little bit of the posterior chain benefit and do hamstring curls to round yourself out. You'd be getting way better results than had you just deadlifted, doubly so if you can't even deadlift properly to begin with.
