you replaced a movement that is very nonspecific to the deadlift with a movement that is slightly more specific (but still not that specific), and you are surprised that this yielded results?

the power clean is not a good way to develop your deadlift, you would be much better off doing romanian deadlifts or SLDLs if your goal is deadlift carryover

lean forward slightly so that your shoulders are in front of your knees

the entire movement is round; if you hit your knees it means you are launching the bar upwards rather than at an angle

I used to have the same problem, then I stopped hitting the bar on my knees. Pretty simple really when pulling the bar up, make sure it doesn't hit your knees. Good that helps.
