I still have a ways to go, but I think I've made good progress. Put on some weight recently, need to fix that. A big problem I have is ordering the amount of food I'd eat at 290 when going to restaurants or fast food. I used to eat a large pizza + sides by myself. Sometimes I find myself ordering in those same quantities, not realizing that's way too much food. And of course, I have the bad habit of finishing the food in front of me.

I think it's still interesting data, so I record it. Gives me a good idea of what to expect on a monthly basis. If you're eating a deficit then it's definitely just water weight, don't let it get to your head.

Fun fact, your metabolism is a tiny bit higher (~100cal/day) when you're on your period, sort of explains why a lot of women feel hungrier on it. This means if you stick to the same calories then you'll probably lose a bit more weight overall during that week you're on your period. Some studies suggest you're also a bit stronger so go hard on those days.

This is how I understand it

TLDR: It makes calorie restriction easier

Intermittent fasting or "IF" is simply the act of not eating for a prolonged amount of time, but not usually the whole day (hence the intermittent part)

This is typically done either by skipping breakfast and having just lunch and dinner, or done with "eating windows" (I.e only eating between 4pm and 7pm)

The no bullshit reason to do it is that skipping a meal makes calorie restriction easier for many people, and allows you to have larger meals for the two meals you do have.

Additionally ive heard that being in a fasted state can possibly make you more alert, produce more growth hormone and maybe have other health benefits but because I am too lazy to find sources im going to say this is speculation.

My core temperature dropped into the toilet. I was literally freezing in 80 degree weather today.

And my morning workout was kind of crap, so I figure that my hormones are in the toilet. Meaning that it's probably time to start eating at maintenance for a while.

BUT I fucked up and drank two sodas and some fairly sugary barbecue sauce for dinner. And now I'm feeling nauseous and full as fuck.

Despite all of that I managed to eat 20 calories over maintenance within my 8 hour eating window. Hot damn.

Anybody else notice that they've become freezing cold when it's actually warm out?

I just seemed to notice a trend. Every year I try to make an effort to lose weight but only during March, April. I slowly diet and eat better foods and then everything gets thrown out of the window. That's another thing I noticed too. In 2014, I had no workout. In 2016 is when I started going to a gym but it was too overcrowded. Now it's 2017 and I've been slowly working out. Started benching a little bit in February and now I'm doing Push-ups, Sit-ups some jogging alongsidr benching. My arms have never looked more toned than they have been last year.

Are counting calories? Logging weight and training? Even if you successfully lost weight without record-keeping, you should consider doing these things.

Record-keeping could affect your motivation to keep doing things. You feel pride for your records of successes and guilt for the failures when you look at your data. Normally you just feel bad after making a bad decision which doesn't really help in avoiding making such a decision again.

What you want is to feel the emotional consequences of your decision as you're making it. Looking at your records can do that. You're thinking of skipping your workout but then you realize you'll have to mark it down as such and you don't want that. So you feel some additional pressure to do your workout simply because you want be able mark another success in your records.

Well I'm back down to the BMI that was the best I've ever looked, many many years ago. Back then I had higher lean body mass, so I'm still flabbier than I'd like to be. My stomach has flattened out, but is still pudgy. Love handles are nearly gone. Great facial gains, I recognize myself again, and I also like how I look in clothes for the first time in a while.

I still have plenty of work to do before summer. I'm dedicating my first sip of the day to /fat/, to /fit/, to myself, and to all of you bros who are shredding the pounds and losing the bad habits. We're all gonna make it.

Ordinary people who spend a lot of energy have physical jobs where they do low-intensity work continuously for 8 hours or longer. Athletes spend a lot energy because they train for many hours every day.

4 hours of walking is pretty long so you're probably burning quite a bit of energy. Maybe 1000kcal or so? The question of whether you'll gain weight depends on whether you compensate for this increased energy use by eating more. This is very likely, if you're not consciously trying to limit your eating in any way. Your instincts influence you to eat at least as much as you burn or more. Without intervention, that's what I predict would happen.

You're working hard all month, and then there's an entire week that just throws you off. (If not TWO weeks).
Before your period starts, your body starts retaining crazy amounts of water weight. That's why a lot of women experience bloating during their period.
On top of that, if your body becomes constipated because of your period your weight will rise. When I looked up info about this, I learned that some women can gain anywhere from 2lbs-10lbs a week before their period starts or during their period.

Just keep counting your macros and calories, stick to your diet throughout your period. Make sure to hit your daily fiber goal to combat constipation.

One issue is if you've been dieting for a long time, nonstop, is your hormones are all out of whack. and is hindering you. I'd advise you take a full diet break (about 2 weeks) and start to incorporate cardio on your off days and to generally increase you daily movements. Forgot to eat lunch today. I've been doing caloric restriction (about 1k calories per day) and IF, and cardio, and lifting. I don't know if IF really does anything to help you burn fat or whatever, but it helps me with calorie restriction.

Are you using MFP? Are you being realistic about your tracking? Are you meal-prepping? If not, do it. And start walking or get on an elliptical a few days a week.

Saving muscle is good for fatloss. IF you are doing it properly, you're not using your muscle as a energy resource and instead are using your fat storage. It also serves to increase your TDEE and any muscle growth. It sets you up better for long term fatloss.

I think complicating the simple process when starting up a diet is bad. Whether it's keto or IF. Stick to the simple, important, methods. Getting bogged down with food windows and specific macronutrient rations, messing with hormones for negligible long term effect isn't something I'd recommend a family member to do. The simple (caloric deficit, run,lift, eat protein) is complicated enough for most starting. It's also the core of any successful loss.

I legit want to do something stupid.

I just ate a 20 piece of Asian Zing wings from b-dubs, slathered with ranch.

Im in my mid 20's, divorced, 6'4 manlet >300 lbs. I have no self control. I was constantly drinking but i had to stop or the DTs would kill me.

Im in debt up to my eyeballs, spend all my money on fast food and stupid shit, and work 8-12 hours a day, 7 a week. My chest hurts and my HR is 99, was at 125 when i had an anxiety attack. I have panoc disorder and its hyppchondriatoc.

Im scared.

Unless the debt is from student loans, the correlation between lack of food control and financial control is what you need to work on. Mid twenties is still really young, be glad the divorce happened so early. Panic and hydrochondiac can be cured (I've had those) Keep working hard at your job and don't let shit get you down too hard. Your problems will take some time to fix but you will get there.

Thanks anon. Its not so much the panic anymore, it was an abusive relationship, but i havent had a legit panic attack in... cant remember. It's my constant general anxiety thats killing me, and it spikes when i feel internal random body pain, especially in the upper body.

A little under 2 weeks in. Lost 8 pounds, probably mostly water weight as I stopped eating so much salty/carb laden stuff.

Going to start hitting the gym again. I was thinking in the morning and at night.

Should I just walk briskly for an hour or so? I don't want to destroy my knees with my fatassness

Water weight is only the initial crazy drop in weight everyone just starting gets. Once you start losing weight steadily it's all fat/muscle.

It's not really something to worry about and more just a thing that people need to be aware of. A lot of people lose like 10 pounds their first week or two and think that that rate is maintainable, so they get discouraged when it drops to like 1-2 a week.

Go one day without eating, then next day (don't eat more then about 1,700 calories) then next day don't eat

It's as easy as that. It isn't starving yourself, and it's actually getting your body time to digest food, and even burn off some fat on the side, and as long as you drink water, you shouldn't be in any pain
