Don't know anything about sticking chin forward, but the gum thing definitely works if you keep at it for a long enough time. I've been done it for over a year now and my jaw looks a lot more "cut" now. It probably won't help you all that much if you have a deformed jaw, but mewing and losing fat can definitely make a noticeable difference.
