They used to think it was fat consumed was stored as fat because the composition between dietary fat and body fat is so similar. So if you eat a lot of omega 3s you end up with omega 3s in bodyfat. Turns out there's a super complicated process going on tho.

Also fat is an old word for lipids/oil. Look up the oil painting term "fat over lean", it refers to having thinner layers of paint with more oil than pigment in higher layers.
