reality aside, brian shaw seems like a REALLY nice guy. theres a video of him training with world crossfit champion (ben smith.) He spent the whole video smiling and trying to be as friendly as possible, the crossfit asshole called him fat a couple times and was kind of just a dick the whole time.

You can be strong and fast, yes. This is what makes a true athlete. But taking the idea of a strongman and calling him an athlete simply because of his strength is wrong. I guarantee you that he's not that fast. You have to train for fast, and lifting heavy doesn't train for fast.

You become faster by training for speed, yeah. But those who are naturally athletic tend to be both strong and fast naturally (good recruitment of muscle fibers). You don't get to be a top level strongman without being supremely gifted athletically. Therefore, it's a safe bet that strongmen are faster than the average dude (at least in a sprint).

Shaw is a really cool guy from what I've seen from him.
It's like that one Leonberger (don't care to google, it's a huge doggo) in my neighbourhood when I was young.
