I read an article the other day that made a case that it's actually pretty fucking good cardio. Like they had a whole dumbbell circuit type routine based on 20 rep sets and 15 second rest periods. Supposedly this burns like twice as many calories as most other forms of cardio. Thoughts on this?

Only if you're going equal time effort-rest.
On a 2 to 1 ratio, that's 20 mn of full-blast intensity, very few people can do that.

I do kettlebell front squats with 2x16kg for 30 minutes, pulse monitor says it burns 500kcal, but I'm a fat ass so everything burns lot of calories.
