I've been avoiding Back Squats because of a knee injury from almost a year ago. I find it much less painful to do Front Squats or Zercher Squats.
Would either of those be a sufficient replacement?
No but it's a good start.
no, they're not replacements, and honestly I find it hard to believe you can front squat and not back squat if you have a knee problem. they're harder on the knees.
front squats are harsher on my knees than back

I took a fall wrong while I was rehearsing a fight scene in a play. There was a lot of torque on my LCL. The doctor said "yeah... it should be fine if you can function with it". Squatting deep and narrow hurts too much for me to lift heavy.

It is a little harder on the knee cap for me, but where the knee is injured seems to respond better. That may have more to do with width the more I think about it and do research because I was lifting with a wider stance (outside shoulder)
As long as you're not lifting with the goal of getting strong in the back squat then yes, they're sufficient replacement. Don't listen to those who say otherwise. Don't do a movement that hurts just because /fit/ says you have to. Just make sure to do your deadlifts and maybe add some butt/hamstring accessory because the front squat is heavier on your quads and core

You poor thing, what happened here?
Nah theyre not replacements, zercher is more like a deadlift in function. Front squat is alright.
Just lowet the weight and adjust your stance until you can go atg or almost atg without pain. Then slowly build from there. Dont worry about looking weak. Health is more important than ego.

Don't listen to any of these jackasses.
Front Squats are literally as good as back squats. It's a minor variation on the same fucking movement.

"Injury"
Looks like a basic extraction of fluid in the knee, also looking at your stick legs you clearly have never done a single squat with a barbell in your entire life.

Replacing back squats with front squats is fine but you have to add in more posterior chain work. So do front squats + stiff-legged deadlifts, romanian deadlifts, weighted back extenstions, etc. Do this while also doing your conventional heavy deadlifts 1 or 2 times a week.

I had a tibial plateau fucking almost 2 years ago and I don't feel anything adverse when I squat. Then again, I'm moving LIGHTWEIGHT BABY
