B is alpha because he is facing the people at his table. Looking away from the group you are in, wether at a bar, wedding or comicon/Magic gathering, communicates you'd rather be elsewhere (for A, on the dancefloor), implying you have the company you have not by choice.
The most alpha thing is to adjust to the people at your table, and be the socializing element of your table, making sure everybody has a good time, joins the conversation, regardless of if your surrounded by hot chicks or retired couples. It should be obvious to anyone walking in the room that your table is the best table to sit at.
