I'm just shy of 6 ft, 5 10-11, and I weight 170 pounds. I wanted advice on what I should do if I wanted to improve my looks. I don't think I'm overweight, just out of shape. I've been doing some body weight exercises lately, not sure if it's what I should be doing.

But I'd recommend looking into intermittent fasting. Helps deal with appetite, burn fat more efficiently, easier to mange food intake. Given your height/weight. I'd start a lifting routine, eat at maintenance while doing IF and should make some noob gains.

More or less. Choose an 8 hour eating window that works for you. Most do like 12-8pm. Do some light cardio while fasted in the morning too when ever possible. I'd also recommend tracking what you eat on myfitnesspal for at least a week to get an idea of what you are taking in daily.

Finding a calisthenics routine is fine too. Although it is harder to progress than with a good weight lifting routine.

I started lifting at ~280lbs and got disgusted watching my fat ugly gut in the mirror doing free weights. Got aboard the keto train and I'm 172lbs today (6'1"). That was Fall 2015. I went from 42" waist jeans to 29". Only lost lifting endurance for two weeks after starting keto before I got back to baseline. I went from 245 to 180 in about a year by lifting 3x a week and eating only slightly better than how I was before (limited snacks, limiting sodas & other sugary drinks, etc.)

I always thought that limiting my diet would be restrictive, but it feels really freeing. Now I don't feel like I have to eat two entrees to feel full.

If you're going to lift, get ready to yo-yo on your weight. But know that as long as you're getting stronger, gaining a little bit of weight isn't a big deal. I used to be really autistic about tracking my weight, but now it's marginally less important that my bf% and 1RMs

Try to get grams of protein = bodyweight in pounds, but no need to be autistic about it. Lift weights. This will only affect how much fat to lean body mass you lose by 10-20% and the rest is genetic.

Do not eat that much protein if it will cause you to eat more calories than you are cutting on any given day.

You still need to lose.

Most people lose about 3 pounds of fat for every 4 or 5 pounds of weight they lose. You've got a long way to go. Probably something like 50 pounds.

I've lost over 50 pounds now, and just for curiosity I looked up what happens to fat when you lose it.

The simple explanation is 85%~ of it turns into carbon dioxide which you exhale normally, and 15%~ of it turns into water which you sweat/pee/poop out. The process that makes it turn into gas/water also heats up your body as it fuels your muscles/organs/whatever.

Just some interesting trivia for you folk. It's cool to think of your body as a furnace that turns fat into gas and blowing it out your lungs into the air.
