not easy but no head trauma makes it ideal for working people

to get to a high level in anything you need live sparring, in boxing and kickboxing that means getting blasted in the face and suffering minor brain damage all the time

with BJJ you can roll full blast and hopefully tap before anyone gets snapped up

You can wrestle here too. If you had you'd know that he's essentially right.

Not remotely disrespecting BJJ it is great but it is the softest and easiest on the body from of grappling. That's almost the point.

There's a point where martial become much more harm than good. I mean I know lots of kickboxers and Judoka's and all sorts of martial artists who are phenomenally good fighters but they'd be easy targets for a violent criminal because their competition days has left them so fucked up. Soft is good.

This. If you are moderately fit or athletic and not a manlet you can stomp the room. It's not a serious martial art. Kung fu is more practical ffs.

t. a guy who goes to bjj sparingly whenever they run a special. and destroys their blue belt everytime i come in.
>>
>>40644910
Lol this. I cant see a beginner getting in a position against somebody whose intentions are to destroy you without grappling. while you think of "how do i get him on the ground" hed probably already be in the process of stomping your brains in.

>>40640033
But I do.

BJJ is literally the product of a sickly child altering the rules of judo until he could stand a chance against his stronger brothers. Tachiwaza is way more interesting (seriously, it's like trying to grow a sixth sense) but BJJ got popular through trashy marketing and by dent of being safe enough for out of shape deskchair jockeys. For fighting, all the neat groundwork is absolutely worthless if you can't control and throw an opponent from standing, something nearly all BJJ gyms spend minimal time on, while Judoka train to throw and rapidly subdue the thrown opponent.

>>40649382
Most grips can be adapted for no-gi combat. Some BJJ schools are no-gi only, in fact.

>>
>>40649675
Judo has way more violent takedowns that can hurt somebody all on their own though. Sure, learn to shoot at the legs too, but you aren't going to KO somebody with a double-leg.

Throws also have the advantage of letting you keep on your feet and stay mobile if you aren't just fighting one-on-one.

I'm not saying you can't knock a guy out with a clean throw, but even an experienced guy had trouble with a completely noob in that point. he didn't knock him out, he had no ground control and a referee is not going to declare you the winner after you hold him for 20 seconds.

i have practiced bjj, wrestling and judo. i know judo's groundwork is the worst. stiff as fuck because the ref is just going to stand both dudes up anyway.

>>
>>40649746
Wrestling is great, but it shares most of it's most traumatic takedowns with judo, just under different names, so I'm not sure what you're so mad about since they're the same throws. I was a state champ wrestler, btw. No need to be so rude.

>>40649709
I'm not saying you have to KO somebody with a throw and that's the only way to win a fight. The guy doing the throwing in that video still won because he pinned his opponent and stayed safe that way, referee or no. He certainly could have capitalized on his throws better, but I only see one person falling on concrete here.

Judo's groundwork isn't worse. Judoka are worse at groundwork because they spend less time on it due to the competition ruleset. It's definitely a weak spot for most judoka, but some of the sport's biggest stars are newaza specialists, and many grassroots tournaments have newaza-only divisions that attract BJJ guys so it's not like judo bans you from learning how to fight on the mat.

Depends. It has no quality control whatsoever, so you could go to a place that has regular sparring and good technique, and is basically just MMA with some extra self defence concepts.
However, you could also find a place that doesn't spar, has shit technique and think ball kicks and eye gouges will let them beat up an MMA fighter. Pic related.

To be honest, any MA that involves applying practical techniques to a resisting opponent will serve you well in a fight. Boxing and/or judo is what /asp/ usually recommends, but muay thai, sambo, kyokushin and lots of others will all do fine. The skill gap between someone with a year of experience and someone with no experience is quite significant.

I think I found it labelled "judo" somewhere, but you're right - the hip throw he uses is maybe a bit more typical of wrestling than judo.
Not that it matters - all good grappling is basically the same. I know judoka who love double-legs and fireman's carries and BJJ guys who love to throw.

My workplace had group health insurance so it covered everything, but it would have cost me something like $6000 if I paid for it myself. My case was quite severe - I had skin reduction, fat and breast tissue surgically removed and lots of internal stitches, so it cost more than usual and my rest period is longer - I can't lift more than 4lbs for about a month and a half. So I'm slowly losing muscle, but when I go back to the gym I'll come back revitalized.
