Am I honestly supposed to believe the average guy can bench 160 lbs? Most fags in my uni gym aren't benching lmao1pl8 let alone 160 lbs
>>
>>40599777
All the young regulars in my gym can bench 2 plate. 160 is where you should be within a couple months.
>>
>>40599796

I'm pretty much that and I can. And I've only got a '38 chest as well. I haven't even been lifting but two weeks. Granted, I can only bench my weight once, but I did it to prove to myself I can literally carry my own weight.

If you can only do 1 pull up at 160 pound bench it means you're a fat tub of shit. I agree OP, the average man CANNOT bench 160 pounds. The people benching 160 pounds most likely weigh 200-220 pounds, meaning that the average person cannot bench their bodyweight which makes more sense.

I consider a 150 pound guy benching his bodyweight far more impressive than benching 180 pounds but being a fat fuck

There are not a large enough group to sway shit.

I would assume if I was completely untrained it would probably be around 160. Though when I first started lifting around 14 I was doing like 80-100lbs.

I don't think it's too far fetched the assume 160lbs is the average for men in their 20's. I would have thought it to be around 135-145lbs though. My GF who doesn't lift is able to bench around 100lbs for 1 rep. Shouldn't be far off to assume an untrained man should at least be able to put up 135.

Even if you have full retard shoulder impinging form, you can't stop your chest being the prime mover in the bench. You're always going to be using your chest.

I'm sure they could deadlift more than you if they actually tried.

Your statement exactly proves my point. If you are benching/repping 100 kg you SHOULD have an amazing chest, or at least not a shit one.
In other words, your bench form is probably lacking and you're not benching that 100 kg predominately with your chest
>>
>>40604193
100kg isn't a great bench, even for 5-8 reps. That's like saying someone should have great quads if they squat 3pl8, or big delts if they press 1pl8. Most people with a really good chest are capable of benching 140kg+ for reps, even if they mostly work below that.

Lmao no you SHOULD not. In my case it's a mix between low weight (which 2pl8 is to anyone who is not a gym casual) and bad pec genetics. Then when I say my chest looks like shit it's probably a fair share of body dysmorphia speaking, but it certainly is not amazing. Twinks that do pushups at home before bed have better looking pecs than I do

that's extremely broad, strength does not directly correlate to strength I could post several examples of people with good form but look small for the weight they lift
>>
>>40604471
Yea you're right forgot to add 1/2/3/4 plate
>>
>>40604349
I don't get what you're going at.

This all started when anon claimed that people not posting pics of their chests somehow disproves that they're able to bench 2pl8. I claimed this is pointless because I for example rep that weight and my chest is absolutely nothing special.

So yes, my chest is partly bad because I don't lift impressive weights, and partly because I have worse prerequisites than most for actually getting a good chest. I never claimed that you can't have a good chest from benching 2pl8, just that posting pics to prove you're able to lift that weight is meaningless
>>
>>40604265
It's not. It's a respectable to good bench depending on how big you are.
But having a decent bench doesn't mean you'll have a good chest.
>>
>>40604320
I don't know where you work out but I do at the Swedish equivalent of Planet Fitness and all the respectable regulars rep 2pl8+, so I wouldn't call it an impressive weight

This is what people forget the most. If you have been doing nothing, you will find it harder to hit those numbers because you don't have the muscle mass to do it. Heck, you are struggling with the bar itself to complete the movement.

>>40605025
This has been proven time and time and time and time and time again. You will never find a big guy who is weak but you can find small guys who are brutally strong. People fail to understand that powerlifting - the sport, not what you spew online - is a weight class sport where your training has to make you stronger without causing hypertrophy otherwise you will go up weight classes. This doesn't mean that powerlifters don't do hypertrophy but it has to be limited.

Every time someone wants to go up a weight class they do bodybuilding. GVT was so effective that even Abadjiev, the patron-saint of high specificity, was using a variant of it in the off-season to get lifters to move up a weight class. If you want size - train for size. This isn't rocket science and I truly hope it isn't a novel concept.
