It seems like you can combine the two. IF can be used during a cut, maintenance, or bulk. It isn't about what you're eating, but when. Also, one of its strengths is training in a fasted state. IIFYM is simply getting rid of the notion of hitting a hard number of calories and focusing more on meeting your macros and being more flexible. They aren't diametrically opposed or anything.
