I got a Tatami GI for my first set. They are pretty durable and aren't super expensive. They shrink up a bit so I got an A3 at 5'11" 200 pounds it's pretty much perfect.

An A2 would work out maybe an A3 if you get bigger or get a brand that shrinks quite a bit

Mizuno or Swain before you get the sick patched up Gi's.

Gi is a solid training tool IMO. Forces you to use more technique to escape because you can't just slip out of shit.
