Hey /fit/ I've been reading the sticky and writing down info but I was wondering why does it ask you to take in more protein when cutting vs when bulking? I assumed you would want more protein when heavy lifting for recovery? Thanks in advance. Pic unrelated

>why does it ask you to take in more protein when cutting vs when bulking?
because its outdated information, taking in the same amount of protein you eat on a bulk while eating under your TDEE is perfectly acceptable while cutting.

When cutting, the number one thing is not losing muscle. Decreased caloric intake means that the body starts trying to find energy from other areas. Depending on protein intake, your body will use muscle, because it accomplishes two things.
1) Gets calories for the here and now
2) Reduces TDEE for a higher chance at survival
In a nutshell, protein stops making you lose as much muscle.

do you have research to back that claim up?

It's supposed to prevent muscle loss during the cutting.
I'm not sure about talking in more when cutting, as in per gram.
But protein will have to consist of a higher percentage of your calories when cutting, so you will need to eat more of a high protein diet. Its best not to agonise over these things though.
