how many pullups do i need to be able to do to not be an embarrassment there

5 climbing is a lot more than pull up strength, there's a lot of technique involved

Apart from some tricky spots, you essentially hold yourself to the rock face with your arms and push yourself up with your legs.
So ten should be fine.
Your grip will be the primary concern. Ten finger tip pull ups. One for each finger. Oh and the thumbs obviously.

Just go climb. It's the best way to get better at climbing (no shit) and as long as you are moderately athletic you won't do that bad. Besides, climbers are very friendly, most of what I have learned is from random other people, most climbing gyms are pretty social. Climbing gyms aren't a bad way to meet cute girls either...
Never done the outdoors ones. I have only gone and done the indoor plastic wall ones.

climbing is mostly finger strength and leg strength and flexibility.

not true, there's plenty of climbers with strong finger, flexibility and good leg strength, but don't climb professional level grades have to learn how to climb efficiently
