was just saying that they are superior since they can be easily loaded with weight to keep forcing adaptations and thus progressing. doing them both alternating at least 2x per week is really good and will cover pretty much every important muscle and more importantly, stabilizer muscles.
what people forget is the amount of stabilization muscles working when doing those two exercises compared to some shitty machine work or exercise where you are limited in movement.

that's why one of the most important things as weightlifter are to keep your lower back strong (mainly spinal erectors) by doing bb back extensions and by keeping your front equally strong in order to avoid imbalances by doing core work

It would be more than a bit inconvenient because I don't have friends at the gym. But seeing how we don't have ab rollers either, it doesn't matter.
Instead of a special vest you could also just wear a tight backpack and stuff it with as many plates as you want.

Abs are a muscle like any other, you break them down and you can build them larger.
