Guys, you don't just go to a gym for months as the quiet feelsguy who looks at his shoes while shuffling between equipment and at his phone during a rest period, and then expect to be able to pick up cardio bunnies.

I'm married and haven't been to a gym in years since I became home gym master race, but when I went regularly I'd often strike up a conversation with girls, judging by whose reaction welcomed the distraction. I never asked any out (married) but if you want some advice on first steps, listen up.

The key goal is to be the guy who is approachable and friendly with everyone. I became a regular and I'd walk in, say hi to the people at the front desk, shoot the shit with them for a short while if they weren't busy with other customers. I'd then get changed and head over to whatever my 1st exercise would be, and often guys I knew would be there so I'd shoot the shit some more.

I got to know guys simply by asking them for a spot, or asking to work in when they rested during busy periods. You can talk to other guys about anything /fit/ related. I got to know girls by doing the same thing. One of the good things about going in on busy periods is that a lot of the equipment is occupied, eventually you'll need a squat rack occupied by a qt3.14 and you can just ask to work in and strike up a conversation.

Eventually you'll walk in and be visibly greeted by a number of male and female regulars. Now here is the trick - DO NOT HIT ON THE FEMALE REGULARS. These are your wing-women, the girls to target are the endless hot new girls who you don't recognize. However, these new girls will sure as shit notice the guy who is getting all the positive attention, and that is *dynamite* social proof to women.

So you're now a popular gym chad, and you see some new qt doing squats during a busy period. How do you approach?
1) Ask to share the rack, gauge her reaction (does she smile, etc?)
2) Break the ice with a stupid joke (I would say stuff like "Hey don't break the bar" when she's squatting 135), gauge her reaction - if she laughs, green fucking light
3) At this point it's up to you to figure out how to proceed - you can say you haven't seen here in the gym before (a subconscious reminder that you know everyone - social proof), ask her if she lives/studies/works nearby, etc etc etc.
4) Before too long, ask her how many sets she has left - if she is about to finish, get her number, if you are gonna finish first that is even better - "hey I have to go do bench now, what's your #?". It will be obvious from 1-3) if she is interested and you can ask for the #.

NB in all honesty I never did 4) (because married), but I would say, "I gotta go bench, hopefully see you around!" - and I could tell by the slightly disappointed look and friendliness in subsequent gym sessions that she wanted to be asked.

Now, quite often what would happen to me is I'd be squatting, and some qt would be hovering around nearby - this is an even more favorable situation because when a woman is interested in you, she *gives you* an opportunity to open. So I'd ask her, "are you waiting for the rack? I have a few more sets to do but we can share", then you follow the script from 2) onwards.

You are full of shit. While I am in the US, I've worked out in gyms in the UK, and in S. America, did exactly the same thing and made friends with the regulars, some of whom I am still in touch with, and I had girls asking me to go to social events with them in SA (ofc turned them down gently).

The fact that you call friendly guys "fucks" and your overall tone suggest to me that you are a very negative person, and so you project and assume everyone else feels as hostile as you do. I used to be that way, but after deciding just to be friendly and kind to people when the situation was appropriate, most people are quite grateful.
