Anyone ever think about focusing on strength and ditching "bodybuilding"?

Don't think I have the insertions/genetics for it
>>
Why not both
>>
>>40207173
This.

If you are natural and an intermediate lifter, you will not get around being strong as fuck.
>>
>>40207169
Pretty much every beginner in their third month of SS
>>
>>40207190
>If you are natural and an intermediate lifter, you will not get around being strong as fuck.

Isn't strength the most important aspect in natural lifting though?
>>
>>40207241
That's what I was implying.
Didnt know if my wording was correct though.
If you are natural you have to get a solid strength foundation, otherwise you will stall after a few years of lifting.
>>
>>40207286
however there is general strength and strength in powerlifting movements.

I'm not sure how much powerlifting movements contribute to hypertrophy
>>
>>40207286
All natural will stall.
Especially if they only do a 5x5 strength training program consisting of "the big lifts".
>>
>>40207330
I'd focus on getting stronger in compound lifts and adding volume (for more hypertrophy response) with isolation exercises.

>>40207331
Yeah of course, but some will sooner than others.
If you are natural and don't focus on getting stronger you eventually don't get enough volume a week/month to keep on progressing.
If you get stronger aswell, it is easier to get bigger.
>>
Anyone ever switched completely to powerlifting rather than chasing unobtainable aesthetics?

>>

any decent bodybuilding program will have you adding weight and doing big compound lifts anyway

anyone i've ever met who trained like a bodybuilder and looked really good was also strong as fuck at the lifts they trained
>>
>>40207408
holy crap that last photo is aesthetic af
>>
>>40207478
Some bodybuilding programs have you squatting and deadlifting once a week, and benching twice a week. (eric helms intermediate bodybuilding)

While a powerlifting program will have you perform compounds movements at a higher frequency which results in more strength.

More strength = bigger muscles
Right?
>>
>>40207513
>More strength = bigger muscles
>Right?
Not essentially true.
More volume = bigger muscles.
Strength just helps natural lifters to get more volume, since increasing every other factor (reps or sets) would cost way more time.
Also you may not recover in the end if you just add another set each work out.
Strength alone is no guarantor for size.
>>
>>40207513
Squats more times a week =/= bigger biceps anon.

It only means slightly bigger thighs and higher squat number and pissed away noob gains.
>>
>>40207554
squats do build bigger arms though
>>
>>40207596
Stop trolling dude.
>>
>>40207513
>More strength = bigger muscles
this is not true you can only gain .5 pounds per week of muscle as an all natural bodybuilder regardless of how much you can lift
>>
>>40207602
Increasing your Squat & Deadlift will build your arms faster than biceps curls & triceps extensions. Get stronger and eat more.

>>
>>40207550
there's also a limit to volume by sets and reps you can do due to the fact that if you do shit you can do for 20+ reps then you wont gain muscle as effectively as fex doing 10x10 at your 12-15rm range which is goingto be a fucking nightmare mentally to keep up long term.

much more effective to just get stronger, 10x10 60kg bench = 6000kg moved, 3x10 twice a week at 100kg = 6000kg moved
>>
I used to weight train focused on strength and hit decent numbers pulling singles and triples with the main compound lifts (like 4 years). However I looked like a fat dad until I started doing some accessory work at higher rep ranges as well as cardio. Now I don't lift any weights any more because I've a manual job and I burn around 5,000kcal a day simply working. While I don't lift anything heavier than 100kg it is like everything that didn't explode in size previously is now doing so.

What I'd say on 'strength' is it is more like specialising in certain lifts with massive reward (rapid progression, very satisfying, quick work outs, strength goals) with massive risk (high risk of instant injury, hard on joints, long recovery).

Anyway I used to pull 247kg, squat 205kg, bench 147kg and OHP 105kg @ around 95-105kg bodyweight @ 6'2".

doesnt realize this is impossible and is an idiot yfw
>>
>>40207888
Work it out man. Take approx 110kg bodyweight at 6'2" and punch numbers for the equivalent of breaking rocks from 6:30am - 4pm outside in temperatures from below freezing to a couple of degrees above.
>>
>>40207888
Are you fucking retarded?

>>40207718
Yeah, you're right.
>>
>>40207888
a 5000 calorie TDEE is very very possible for a tall guy with a manual labor job
>>
>>40207938
>>40207718

im eyeballing this, but you would be in a deficit of 1500 calories ATLEAST (subtracted from TDEE), meaning you would need to eat a total of 4000+ calories simply to not die

either you're a fucking billionaire, or you're full of shit
>>
>>40207938
just to maintain your body weight you would have to eat 8000 calories per day, you have no idea what you are talking about and this is why you looked like shit when you were lifting.
>>
>>40207718
Shit man what's your diet like?
>>
>>40207968
why are you subtracting anything from TDEE?

he meant his TDEE was 5000 cal a day obviously
>>
>>40207888
I burn around 4k calories a day delivering mail on a 11 mile route with lots only steps and a 40lbs satchel. According to memebit. I eat 4.5k calories a day and gain a little over a half pound a week.

I used to work in a distribution center as a order picker in a freezer I could easily have been burning over 5k back then. I ate PIZZA AND REDBULL and stayed lean.
>>
>>40208015
Fucking Chads man
>>
I don't know what the argument is for, but yeah I mean my TDEE is up over 5k. I eat a huge sandwich, usually tuna, eggs or chicken. Small bag of crisps, a meat pie, dark chocolate, small amount of nuts, fruit, usually 4-5 pieces of fruit a day. In the evening will eat whatever, but large portions usually meat, beans, rice, pasta, vegetables, couple of beers or a glass of wine.

I didn't look like shit lifting, I just looked like a strong dad. Mostly because I started off chunky instead of lean. Never had better than 'top abs ' at my leanest.

Fuck off.
>>
>>40208339
Embarrassing retard.
>>
Strength means muscle for naturals but strength in the muscle groups you want to get big in the first place

so obviously if you squat thinking it will make your back wider you are fucking stupid

but if you get strong at weighted dips, weighted pull ups, t bar rows and ohp you will obviously have big upper body (bench press sucks major ass imho)
>>
>>40208131

>t. Delusional fatass
>>
>>40208388
Gotta confuse those muscles right bro?
>>
What would you look like if you only did squat bench and deadlifts?
>>
>>40208525

Like shit probably
>>
>>40208469
Kek
>>
>>40207623
This is bait.
But the reason people say squats build bigger arms is that if you're squatting, chances are youre in the gym and not skipping your workouts. THAT'S what will build your arms. Not the squats.

It's like how they say you get muscles by sleeping. Sure, sleeping is when your body makes its gains, but you have to be putting in the work to make it happen. Sleeping alone will not make you buff.
>>
>>40207169
Is this concord? You look good
https://youtu.be/dvOjGkfea_w
>>
>>40209897
concord?
>>
>>40209829
You do know your biceps are being worked while you're holding the bar for squats right?
>>
>>40207689
10x10 bench at 135 if you can do 10 with 225 is too low to even get a training effect really, you would just be wasting time

>>40207513
no, more volume per body part = more muscle

and you can do more volume at lighter intensities

>>40208247
just some bullshit

you could do nothing but squats for a year and you wouldn't have pissed away any noob gains

the muscle groups you didn't train would still experience noob gains

i've been lifting 5 years and i'm getting noob gains in my calves because i only now started doing them
>>
>>40210018
you're retarded if you think that constitutes meaningful bicep training
>>
Right now I'm on Candito's 6 week strength program and have seen incredible gains.

But I want more volume, and kind of getting bored of running the same program over and over for the last ~6 months. Should I switch it up to a PPL?
>>
>>40210018
Your legs carry around your fatass all day, but that doesnt make you strong.
>>
>>40210018
They are but they aren't getting bigger.

There's a big difference from size and strength. Curlbros get big arms but no real strength outside the gym. If you only care about pussy then yeah be a curlbro 4x12 5x/week.

I feel like this board needs a general to contain all the people who lift only for pussy.
>>
>>40210358
This board is almost entirely people who lift for pussy. Most of us lift because we're unhappy with how we look. We want to look better and feel better. What benefit is there to looking better? Self esteem and confidence. Why would be want to look better and be more confident? Pussy.

The only people who arent are the ones who are doing some sort of training to mend an illness or injury, or the people who are so fat that theyre going to die.
The rest are people who lift for pussy but cant get any, so they convince them self theyre doing it for a different reason. It's all a bunch of mental gymnastics we do, but we all want to look and feel good. Nothing accomplishes this better than a pretty girl to bang.
>>
>>40210446
Should've been more clear. I meant lifting for "pussy magnet bodies". I want to get stronger for my self-esteem and confidence of course, but I'm not looking for a skelly dyel body certain women would love.
>>
>>40210317
That is absolutely wrong.
If a moderately active fat ass were to drop all of their excess weight tomorrow they would be ridiculously strong.

And if you see a man who's well over 200 pounds doing fairly advanced strict bodyweight/calisthenics movement then he'll fuck your shit up.
>>
>>40210572
And if a skelly dyel were to gain all their missing muscle mass tomorrow, they would be ridiculously strong too.
But theyre not. It'll take time.
In the mean time, being 300lbs with a 2 plate squat is weak as fuck.

Video related to your stupid ass arguments.
>>
>>40208015

This.

I lift boxes and walk all day at work. Afterwards you can find me at a steak house wolfing down steak and potatoes and getting ice cream afterwards.

I still got a six pack. I quit counting how much I eat and just eat. I stay lean so it dont matter.

Even the fat fucks at my job are slowly becoming less fat. I compliment them all the time and tell them how noticeable it is they are going to the gym and how much of a difference its making. They dont go to the gym but I feel like the confidence boost they will receive might push them too.

It seems like a fuckton, but it makes sense. I stay seated all day and only do a few hours a week of exercise at the gym, and the pool now that it's summer. I assume it's the same for many Anons.

You retarded? They are literally one in the same thing, only bodybuilding means you go on a cut sometimes.

No, they're not.

They borrow from eachother, but there's some significant differences in approach beyond just how sloppy you let yourself get.
