It HAS to be cold turkey to keep you from carrying over the same habits you have had.

There is no simpler answer than willpower. You have to sit down and ask yourself what you really want, a body you're not ashamed of, or a quick sugar rush and then a night of shame? If you want the body more, putting down the sugar is just a matter of respecting yourself. Accept that you have to deny yourself the instant gratification, and that you will have to suffer. Believe that you're strong enough to endure the suffering.

Beyond that, you can supplement your willpower by making yourself too full to eat with things that have few or no calories, like water or celery or konjac noodles.

Intermittent fasting also helps for lots of people because you can still eat fairly large amounts of food at once. Especially if you're the sort of person who's not hungry in the mornings, you should consider this.

If you tend to break down late at night like I do, then force yourself to go to bed early, before the cravings can set in. Sometimes I use diphenhydramine sleeping pills for this.

I had this problem

Turns out my carbs were too low. Now I eat 40% protein, 40% carbs, 20% fat.

I arrange my calories into those macros, every meal I make sure I get protein and carbs.

If I eat too little carbs I can't feel satisfied and get cravings, if I eat too little protein I feel like snacking all night.

Experiment with fruits, there are so many fruits.
In my opinion they are often more satisfying than sweets.
Also if you buy fruits in season they're often cheaper than lollies.

Some of my favorites:
White flesh peaches
Pineapple
Grapes
Golden kiwi fruit
Some apples
Nashi-pears
Watermelon
