I used to listen to metal when I was a teenager. I always hated this type of music but still listened to it because I wanted to "be different", in other words I wanted to be an attention whore. I would put that shit on blast volume so that everyone can hear what I am listening to. My mentality changed completely when I started lifting and grew to become an adult.

Depends on the environment at the end of the day. I'm assuming office/business environment where appearance is actually crucial to the entire business entity.

Besides, there are bigger alarms than log hair ever will be. You don't see mainstream movie stars with lip rings, hand tats etc. Generalizing tattoos is fair I think, but with hair I don't think it's fair.

I listen to whatever I find appealing to my ears. When I'm lifting, it just so happens that a lot of it is metal. However, I do listen to many genres. I dont really like to limit myself to what people think is cool or not. I'd like to think I have good taste in music, although I know for a fact that some of the tunes I listen to are actually pretty bad. That being said, it doesn't make it any less enjoyable.
