Numbness after lifting
Hey /fit, I've been lifting for about 6 weeks now on the starting strength program and just started getting a persistent numbness in my left hand pinky finger and slightly up into my hand. Anyone else experienced something similar?
I think it might be lifting related because I've just started doing 5lb jumps in weight per session. Thinking I might have bad form that's causing a nerve punch in my shoulder or elbow.
Ulnar nerve can get irritated if you lean into your elbow often.

Should I immobilise it to see if it goes away? If I continue lifting will that compound the problem?

if you pinched your neck (around C4-C8, I don't remember) then immobilizing anything won't help

C8, I know this feel, and it's C8. I get it from putting a heavy load on my traps. Time to rub that back OP, and unknot whatever's causing the impingement. Tuck your chin back (make a double chin) and tell me if you feel something pulling in your neck. Should feel sore.

It's a symptom of ulnar nerve entrapment, I have the same condition.
Mine was caused by retarded daily habits (leaning on my elbows, using laptop on the bed while whole weight on elbows etc.) and doing super heavy pushdowns at the gym.
This was back in 2009-2010. I ignored it and made it worse. This shit had robbed me from ALL my gains. Go to the doctor, get it checked out, try to pin-point exactly the source of inflammation.

Well fuck me I do, like a tendril running from my collar bone and into my neck.

ok well this only started a few days ago so I'll try to go see a doctor asap. would going to an express care place have doctors good enough or do I need to see a specialist?
I started doing front barbell squats with heavy weight. Guess I shouldn't have done that.

You have what I have. It's caused by pic related. Bad posture. Start doing chin tucks till it goes away, and roll your neck and traps to kill whatever knots you may find. Do it now before you severely pinch a nerve.
Also wouldn't mind input from some other people, since this is what I think will resolve the issue, and I'm no doctor. I took a year off from lifting thinking it would go away, and it didn't, but it did get better.

It's cubital tunnel syndrome, and I don't think it has much to do with lifting. A lot of the nerve pressure could come from how you position your arms when you sleep. Try and keep your arms straight while you sleep and it should clear up within a week.

yea, I jut my head out almost purposefully because if I don't I get a rather prominent double chin even though I'm only around 18~22 bodyfat% (depending on the calculation).
Guess I'll have to work on posture over preserving what little looks I have first.

That's a good point, I generally sleep on the side where I'm feeling the numbness with that shoulder tucked under me. I'll try to stop doing that too.

Is that what the other side of the shaded region on the hand looks like? I learn so much on /fit/.
OT: You're dying faggot.
