But the point generally that gender expression is socially constructed. That is, what's normally masculine behavior vs feminine behavior. Two quick examples: Today, pink is a girl's color. Toy stores for kids have entire isles that are filled with just pink things for girls. Back in the late 1800s to early 1900s, though, pink was thought of as a masculine color for boys (the girly color was blue). There were articles about how you could give your little girl one or maybe two things that were pink, but too many and she would grow up too masculine. Now of course, you'd get similar statements about giving too many pink things to young boys.

Another example is the showing of emotions. In our modern western culture, women are looked at as more emotional and more openly emotional, while men are less so (or at least more closed off). A guy who crys a lot of shows a lot of emotion in public is seen as girly. In other cultures (like the ancient greeks, for example) this is the other way around. Men were expected to openly show emotion all the time, and to be less emotional, or even just less publicly emotional was seen to be feminine. Men wept and showed feelings openly, while women did not.

So obviously things like build, strength, etc are determined by genetics and hormones and such, a lot of the things that we think of as masculine or feminine are products of the culture we live in, and there are often clear examples in other cultures or history of things being the other way around.

That's where the social construct thing comes from.

P.S. Also, high heels were originally worn by women because of a fashion trend for more androgynous clothing, for a long time it was very masculine to go around in 4-6 inch heels and no proper lady would dream of wearing anything other than flats or a tiny heel.

holding your breath for long periods of time and then releasing works out your lungs and helps increase lung capacity, also doing it while underwater is apparently more effective due to the pressure or some shit

yeah, exactly. Your examples are so old you can't even find color photographs. Sociology did some important work in the past, and there are still some valid sociologists but half the sociology courses in the US now are as bullshit as Women's Studies. It pisses me off, because there are still important things that sociology could be doing but feminism destroyed it.
Keep an eye on psychology, the cancer has started spreading there and in another decade it will be worthless if things don't change.
