Hey /fit/, recovering fatty here
I've been going to the gym to lift and do cardio on top of eating at a caloric deficit since September. I'm 6'2 245 lbs and I started at 305.
I just recently started doing compound lifts because my fat ass couldn't handle it when I first started. First time squatting I ended up doing 225x5 which is still babbyweight but I expected much worse. However, my deadlifts were lower than that. To my understanding, which is limited, aren't diddy lifts supposed to be higher than your squat? I could only manage 1.5 plates and I couldn't even get 2 plates off the ground
Aside from being weak as shit, what's my problem? Could it be just improper form, or is it something more along the lines of an underdeveloped back?
I know my noob gains will only take me so far while I'm eating at a big deficit, but I'm hoping to at least get my deads up to 2plate before plateauing during the cut

it's most likely an untrained core. as a fatty you naturally have conditioned lower body just to function (walk, sit, etc) but your core is being babied by your fat pad. otherwise, check your form.

Could be form issues with the deadlift, could be issues with the squat, could be that you're chunky enough that you can't get into an optimal deadlift position. Could be other stuff.
Impossible to say without seeing things.

I'm wagering a guess that it's because you used to carry around so much weight on your legs, but that your core is still very weak in comparison.
Might have weak hands, try mixed grip
225 is a shitload to squat your first time. I'm guessing your form was bad. Try lower weights to perfect form.
