Would you guys suggest negative reps or assisted chin-up machines to progress towards actual chin-ups? Why would you choose that method?
I find the negatives to be awkward to do in a crowded gym, but I always hear that machines are just garbage. Is that just a meme? Yes I know the best thing I can do is lose weight, but in the mean time I want to work on the muscles there to progress to real chin-ups ASAP.

Negative, because it gets you used to the unassisted pull. I have no references for it, but I believe negatives are better than assisted ones.
starting using pic related cause weak and cant do a single pull up. wasting my time? hope not.
