Could use some help /fit/. So I want to get one of my friends to start lifting with me. He's insecure and awkward. I feel like he could really benefit with a little extra confidence from getting bigger. I think I'm going to get him on the 5x5 plan and teach him all the lifts while also teaching him some isos. I could use any and all tips on helping him through his journey.

Stronglifts is a great program to start on. Makes sure he starts from the bar to nail down the form correctly.
One thing to note, the only bad part about taking people under your wing is sometimes they dont put in the work and make lifting a chore rather than something thats fun. Just remember you can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink the fucking thing

am i the only one who struggles with proper squat form when using the empty bar? i need 10 or 20kg for proper form, otherwise i go down awkwardly

Film yourself and fix that. You should be able to do a proper squat ATG with an empty bar without it being awkard.
Maybe youre just not warming up correctly as in you dont have a mobility routine before your actual squat exercise starts.
Ill admit when i do my first squat of my workout day with an empty bar it feels rough and "out of groove" but after my mobility routine my squats are perfect.
