Im starting SS in a couple of hours
should I have chosen SL? Why? Why not?
If I could go back in time I would start with Phrak's GSLP, pic related.
I have done SS and SL and I prefer phrak's GSLP.
Why I like it:
- 2 upper body lifts every day, one lower
- for beginners who are not specialising and just want to get stronger/bigger, I think chin ups and rows are just as important as ohp and bench presses...
You will see that it calls for 3x5 with weight. IMO to start doing weighted chin ups you should be able to bust out 12 in one set. Not everybody can do that, not everybody can even do a chin up.
- if you can't do 12 chin ups, the best way to get better is to chin up as much as possible
- if you can't do one chin up, where the program says 3x5 weighted chins, spent 15-20 mins working up to one heavy rep on the lat pull down, then backing off... but keep it heavy, and the reps low. End of every workout... everyday if possible... do negatives, jumping chins etc.
If you are new to things, after each workout do lots of push ups, planks, and yeah, chin ups.
IMO... when you can do 60kg on bench start adding in higher reps (like 3-4x8-12) curls, tricep extensions, lat raises etc.
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY...
SL, SS, GSLP are all good because you work the entire body each day with big compound exercises. That's the most important thing with a program.
After that, eat right, sleep, and give it 100% each time you go into the gym.
I started a month ago with SS. Didnt like it at all. Started doing >leddits PPL. Love it so far.

Literally does not matter. Just don't be afraid to do some arm work and calf raises.
The programs are so similar that you can't go wrong either way. Best routine to pick is the one you find the most fun; if you're not having fun at the gym you're not going to last long unless you have a lot of discipline.
I went with the routine posted on aworkoutroutine.com as it contained more lifts i like and less of the ones I don't like. Having great progress with it, just as you will if you go with any other acclaimed beginner routine.

Aren't pull-ups better than chin-ups?
it doesn't matter, SL will basically turn into SS minus cleans eventually once the fatigue from the 5x5 becomes too much
both programs fucking look the same and work identical
pepsi or cola kind of debate

Chin-ups work your biceps and it's easier to do one. Less time messing around with negatives and cable machines at the beginning until you can do one.
Pull-ups and muscles-ups are better for showing off.

So PullUps will make me have a bigger back, right?
>>39969787
>Pull-ups (...) are better for showing off
And in general better. That is if you're not a pussy who always takes the easy way.

Yes pull-ups has more focus on the back where chin-ups has more focus on the biceps.
You will most likely add some curls into your routine soon anyway

This will sound dumb but since the back is so much bigger than biceps, why are pullups harder than chinups?

I've been doing Phraks GS for 4 months now and I have hardly made any Progression at all

Pullups are not 'generally better' just as chinups are not generally better. They have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Because of the position of the arms and shoulders. For a chinup, the biceps are in a better position to help with the movement, which makes it easier.

SS is better for pure beginners because it has a the right amount of volume.

>beginner routine for 4 months
>tripping for no reason
Sounds about right
>>39966847
no matter what you do pls for the love of god add some high volume work for your upper body
>>39971542
both chinups and pullups focus on back, chinups just activate the biceps more.

I thought you were supposed to do Phraks until you Hit 1/2/3/4?
