What does coffee do for you from a fitness perspective? Assuming you drink it black.
Caffeine slightly reduces your perception of effort, though personally I've never noticed a real difference.
Coffee contains various antioxidants but I drink green tea for health and coffee for caffeine.

Coffee contains compounds that stimulate epinepherine and norepinepherine release, which both act on adipose tissue to increase liberation of triglycerides (which are converted to free fatty acids for use in cellular respiration, mainly by muscle tissue). Drinking black coffee while fasting accelerates body fat loss.
Coffee is a mixed bag. Just finished off a massive cup of strong joe before my crossfit workout. It definitely allows you to life more, for longer, which is why caffeine is the main ingredient in most pre-workouts.
The problem I have is that it decreases my appetite, meaning it becomes harder to eat enough calories to gain weight.
Still I can't stop drinking the stuff.
