Just admit it guys, Starting Strength is not worth it for beginners who only care about aesthetics.

Fuck off with this garbage thread. SS works for newbies who have no lifting knowledge as long as you incorporate other modes of exercise and don't GOMAD just eat well you'll be fine.
>>
>>39929695
ss is good only if you've done physical training before, like calisthenics
a skinnyfat mf who looks like shit will continue to look like shit
>>
SS + curls + dips + chins is pretty legit for the beginner, m8y
>>
The war wages on.

GSLP for best compromise of strength/aesthetics

Deload: the program. Also only squatting once a week.
>>
>>39929943
This. It's absolute garbage
>>
>>39929695
beginners who only care about aesthetics won't get them without getting stronger first

and SS is the fastest way to get stronger as a novice
>>
SS is great for improving CNS.

The volume isn't enough for hypertrophy though.

Ditch SS as soon as you start stalling, then switch to something with more volume.

are you literally retarded?
>>
Even Rip says you need to bench twice a week if you're going for aesthetics. Which I guess constitutes a "YNDTP". Based on this evidence, it's safe to conclude that SS is in fact not the ideal program for someone looking for aesthetics.
>>
>>39931881
if you're natty, you need to build strength to build muscle. they are one and the same. you can easily cut afterwards and be a shredded twink if you want but if you're 6'3 and 130 lbs you will get nowhere following a brosplit or aesthetics brahhhz routine and eating 200 cal over maintenance.
>>
>>39931940
Your response had literally nothing to do with that post.
>>
>>39932292
aesthetics = muscles built through getting stronger

you can't change the shape of a muscle which is entirely genetic, you can only change its size.
>>
>>39931940
Tell that to the last twink that SS helped.
Know the guy that rippletoe paraded around as proof that SS put on ungodly amounts of muscle?
He's fat as shit and doesn't even lift now.
>>
>>39932317
Are you literally retarded? What in the flying fuck does this have to do with Rip saying you need to bench twice a week?
>>
>>39932326
>the last twink that ss helped

you realize that was over 7 years ago and that hundreds of thousands of people have followed the program and got results since then, right? zach did put on a ridiculous amount of muscle for the time period, but it's his own fault that he ate 6000 calories a day and stopped training and never cut.

you don't have to believe me but i train at a gym where two starting strength coaches certified by Rip work and everybody they have coached including me has gotten stronger and more "aesthetic"
>>
>>39929695

SS is literally one of the worst rutines you can do
it only gets mentioned on forums where everyone's either a genuine newbie, or perma-newbies i.e ppl who never progress
for a beginner i would advise practically any program over SS
SS can be useful as an off-season pick-me-up for guys who are already strong, but other than that it is useless
>>
>>39930881
>and SS is the fastest way to get stronger as a novice
no it's not
>>
>>39932381
Three things
There has not been a decent picture of a person who's done pure SS ever. Not one.

Secondly, he followed Rips advice to the fucking T and he got fat as shit. Most of that muscle came from him being a fucking adolescent and getting more food and activity. If it was an adult?
Nothing spectacular would have happened.

Lastly stronger =/= aesthetic.
Nor is building a "strength base" important.

It's been shown with basic scientific evidence that a brosplit like program is superior.
And it's been shown by every single culture on the planet who's ever considered physical culture as an essential part of their society that calisthenics is NEEDED for basic health.

Nothing against SS, but claiming it's the panacea for all of your fitness and health ills then passing the fucking buck when people talk about it's failings is spineless bullshit that does not shine the brightest of lights on the program or the people who follow or want people to follow it.
>>
>>39932317
>you can't change the shape of a muscle which is entirely genetic
>this is what lazy broscientists actually believe
Keep blaming "muh genetics" for your shit aesthetics when it's 100% because your RoM is pathetic on most exercises and you don't stretch.
>>
>>39932430
>Most of that muscle came from him being a fucking adolescent and getting more food and activity.

exactly. this is what a lot of fitness snake oil sellers do - they take a niche client population, like steroid users, pro athletes or growth-spurt yound adolescents, and claim that it was their methods that got the results and not the high T levels, natural or otherwise, that did it
>>
>>39932485
Well yeah duh.
If they were selling pure strength and saying it's a good supplement to bodybuilding athletics and calisthenics or what have you and had a good in and out strategy with it?
Yeah.
If they were more upfront with the flaws in the program and talked to people about what it is good for?
Yeah.

It in and of itself is not a good program to follow for a long period of time. You'll hit the wall hard on it once the noob gains are done and as a natural will not only not progress rapidly but end up injured and bored.

BUT if it will get adolescent males off their ass and away from the horribly queer and deeply dangerous "aesthetics" thing then I'm all for it.
But it's like the other side of the fucking road stuff though. The preening quasi machismo of gear addled limp dicks screaming "SQUAT R UR A PUSSY".

>BUT if it will get adolescent males off their ass and away from the horribly queer and deeply dangerous "aesthetics" thing then I'm all for it.

it isn't an either/or:

you have complete control over your rutine, and it should rarely ever be SS, in fact NEVER SS for beginnners. it's not a beginner's rutine, despite what rip says...
>>
>>39932762
Well yeah, but having complete control over nothing means nothing.
Complete noobs don't know what the fuck they are doing. They barely know what they want or if what they want is humanly possible.

And you are right. SS is for people who're already fairly active or athletic and thus have a base of physical fitness to start from and people who're 100% healthy and have the right kind of build to do the exercise in the program without issue.
>>
>>39932806

bill starr, who invented the program and who rip learned it from, intended it for off-season gridiron players. why rip decided to call it "Starting Strength" and pushed it to newbies is anyone's guess
>>
>>39929943
You squat twice a week
>>
>>39932405
what is, then?
>>
>SS is a meme
>SL is a meme
>every day isolations is a meme
>cardio kills gains

SO WHAT DO I DO?
>>
>>39932939

Rips version is derived not from the regular Bill Starr 5x5, but from the version they'd give to aspiring football players who needed to achieve the size/strength required to not die on the football field and to do so in a hurry.

So it kind of was a newbie program. Just not for the average newbies goals.
