Deadlifts with hook grip? Is it really that much better than mixed?

lower risk of tearing a bicep and less rotational force on the spine, so I guess it's better
personally I mixed grip if I'm going for a max attempt as it feels like I can get closer to the bar for some reason. Just do whatever feels better, if you can hook your max DL then good for you. I double overhand all my warmups to around 185 then switch to mixed

I like having functioning thumbs

I use hook grip for warm up sets. Mixed grip for working sets. Straps for working sets if my forearms simply aren't willing to cooperate. Then again, I do 3 working sets a session so maybe I'm just a moron who knows.

It always hurt for me, but maybe I'm just a bitch. I'm overhand up to 225 now, but I'm sure as I inch closer to 315 and up I'll probably need straps.
Tried training them for a month and thumbs still hurt as bad the last time as they did the first time.

Do people really have a hard time holding onto the bar? I DL 4.5pl8 with normal overhand and cant even imagine the time when I'll need wraps or anything like that.

I grip with my fingers so that I don't rip the skin on my hand. If I used my whole hand I could probably do so, but I just don't have the stamina for more than like 3 reps just using my fingers past 225

that's pretty impressive, do you have a vid?

I'm starting to have grip problems at 135kg (3pl8 is 140kg) now. Can easily hold it for 3 reps, but the 4th and 5th are a bit iffy. I'll bring some chalk today to see if it helps.
