3pl8 is reasonable for beginners OP, but make sure you only bend your knees slightly and then come back up
Low reps high weight for strength, 3-5 reps
High reps low weight for size, 10-15 reps
Some of both, 5-8 reps
Work your way up from just the bar, adding weight to your sets until you can't do a full set.
