>>
>>39871465
I was a skelly so I don't know much about losing weight,
but you should search up the "Ketogenic Diet" if you do that.

Low calorie with high protein/fat foods will force the body to use fat for energy instead of calories therefore you would lose weight.

Clarify if I'm wrong, I also do want to know if this legit works or not.
>>
>>39871465
>all-meat

no

lots of meat, fish, poultry, eggs, full fat dairy, non-starchy vegetables
some nuts, seeds

go to /r/keto for more information
>>
I tried this for like 2 weeks - not all meat, but like 80% meat with Quest protein bars for fiber and maybe 1 vegetable a day.

I felt like absolute shit. It was also expensive as fuck.
>>
>>39871465
Ita another fad diet that hides the calorie deficit from you desu.

>Eat nothing but meat
>Meat is expensive so you don't eat a whole lot of it
>It also takes time to prepare so you eat less often
>Not eating carbs
Congrats you made a calorie deficit.
Just like keto
>Cut out carbs
>Deficit
But yes you can lose weight on either of them but you can gain weight just as easily. In your case if you decide to eat an 16oz ribeye for dinner you are already at 1200 calories compared too 16 oz of chicken breast which is 440 calories.

Keto does work for fat loss, and it's a pretty easy diet to formulate (meat and non-starchy vegetables) and stick to (after the induction phase of approximately 1 week). Most of your initial loss will be from water since ketones exert a diuretic effect and because glycogen holds something like 3 grams of water for every gram of glycogen (burning through glycogen = losing tons of water).

The argument gets muddied by ketofags acting like keto is the ONLY effective way to fat loss (far from it), and the reactionaryfags going 180 degrees full-retard in acting like keto is NOT effective for fat loss. Both sides are retarded, and the truth lies somewhere in the middle: keto works, as can other diets, and it's up to you to find a diet that is not only effective in theory, but one that you can stick to, making it effective in practice.

I combine keto with intermittent fasting because I like the foods allowed by keto (I'm not really big on carb-heavy foods), and I find that having a fat-based diet makes it easier for me (repeat: for ME) to tolerate the fasting phases of intermittent fasting. It's been effective for me, and if you think these diets can work for you, do some research to figure out how to approach them.

>non-essential

>>
>>39873020
Yeah if your eating low G.I. shit carbs like white bread and sugar you will get hungry. I eat rice, sweet potatos, and oatmeal I am always satisfied after a meal always.

If your a natty good luck gaining any muscle at all on keto and good lock keeping any muscle during fatloss on keto.

Now low carb is great for people who like extra fat in their diet and want to lose weight but going keto is just asking to go catabolic. The only reason that shit diet has a following is because its great for making women look skinny but not muscular and landwhale men look human again. Enjoy looking like a skinnyfat bitch while I get invited out to dinner with friends and you stay home drinking cream.

Lol I went on this a couple months ago for 3 weeks, nearly had a heart attack from cholesterol build up.... I'm 21 with a healthy heart btw
>>
>>39873006
Do you really need to keep it strictly under 20g of carbs? I've heard elsewhere that you can eat as high as 80g of carbs and still induce ketosis.

When I tried it, even eating more than a few servings of broccoli put me above 20g, even when accounting for fiber and sugar alcohols. There was nothing starch heavy, bready, or sugary in my diet at all.
>>
Americans do this.

Now look at the obesity rates of America. While you're at it, look at the statistics of keto success over several years.

tl;dr: It doesn't work outsid eof anonymous posts on the net. No diet does.
>>
>>39872983
>It also takes time to prepare so you eat less often
its literally the time that you take to season it, put on pan, set alarm for 5 minutes, lurk /fit/, turn the meat, more 5 minutes, lurk more, eat while shitposting about how meat is better than everything
>>
>>39873424
It takes 10 seconds for me to measure out a cup of greek yogurt. or 1 minutes to cook eggs.

I still eat around a 0.5-1 lbs a meat a night for those testosterone gains but I am not going to spend my valuable free time and money cooking meat.
>>
>>39873482
>but I am not going to spend my valuable free time and money cooking meat.
thats why you are posting on /fit/ right?
oh, when i cook my meat i cook about 500g uncooked, thats about 400g cooked, so i get about 100g of protein, and it tastes godtier, greek yogurt is shit and eggs are for breakfast, i can't even look at an egg without gaging
>>
Enjoy your colon cancer and heart disease :)

Try a plant based diet, OP.
>>
>>39871465

You'll lose weight but it's also retarded
>>
It's literally impossible. You won't be able to eat 2000 calories from just meat for a long time. Sure 3 days but 3 months, nope
>>
>>39871465

I characterize my diet as "Keto-ish Paleo-ish" just because a) Paleo doesnt really exist unless you're hunting game animals and foraging for wild plants, and b) I don't really track my carbs, just limit my diet to meats and fibrous, non-starchy vegetables, which while maybe not "strict keto" (I've never counted carbs, so I'm not sure), is probably good enough, and seems to work just fine for me.

I try not to overcomplicate things: I don't count calories or carbs, I just eat wholesome food when I'm hungry, I try to perform a lot of varied activity as my body sees fit, and try to get enough sleep (this is the hardest part for me with school and work). The micromanaging should in my opinion be limited to specialists dedicated to competing at the advanced or elite levels of a specific sport. For general health, just have a general framework that you adhere to about 80% of the time and you will be fine.

>>39873980

>>
>>39874077

>For general health

You eat a diet of mostly meat for general health?
>>
>>39874601
I never said I eat "mostly meat". By volume, I eat far and away more vegetables, nuts, and seeds. By calories, meat would likely make up the majority, but only because vegetables are so low in calories, though I mostly eat poultry, so my meat sources are relatively lean. For clarification, I am

> By calories, meat would likely make up the majority

And you eat that way for health reasons?
>>
>>39871465
You're retarded.
>>
>>39875265
Yes. Since I've been on this diet, my physical fitness has improved, my bodyfat has decreased, my markers of general health (blood pressure, cholesterol levels, thyroid hormones, etc.) have all improved, and my mental health, mood, and focus have improved. I feel better, look better, and recent medical tests bear that out.
>>
>>39871465
add a lot of veggies in there and you're set
>>
>>39875413

>Since I've been on this diet, my physical fitness has improved, my bodyfat has decreased, my markers of general health (blood pressure, cholesterol levels, thyroid hormones, etc.) have all improved

Did you happen to exercise during this period as well?
>>
>>39875466
Nothing new. My routine stayed pretty much the same. I try to only change one thing at a time so I can get a better idea of which changes work and which ones don't.
>>
>>39875577

Nice. What was your diet like beforehand?
>>
>>39875588
Pretty much the same as now, but with lentils, rice, beans, potatoes, etc. in addition to my meat and vegetable consumption. I eliminated the starches and bumped up my vegetables while adding nuts and seeds to roughly maintain the calories, and have been satisfied with the results, both with the mirror test and my general sense of health.

Again, as stated in my first post, this is what worked for me. There is more than one way to achieve your goals, but with my limited budget, the foods I enjoy, and the time I can dedicate to food prep, this diet (keto-ish + IF) is the one that appears to work best for me, and this is at the end of a lot of research, considerations for my situation, and outright experimentation.
>>
>>39873950
these are great... you haven't lived till you've showed down on one of these
>>
>>39874077
Thanks anon, I'll probably give this a shot once I eat all the potatoes I just bought today (really the only starchy thing I eat regularly). I felt like shit when I tried keto and felt like my diet actually got way worse because I was avoiding vegetables and nuts because of the 20g carb restriction. I was living on chicken, steak, and bacon jerky.
>>
>>39871671
>practicaly no carb, pure fiber
Bull
>>
>>39877020
Yeah, don't skimp on the vegetables because of worries about carbs. You will actually probably feel better with vegetables in your diet since they have a lot of good nutrition, and the fiber (along with good hydration) will help keep you regular. Keep your vegetables leafy green and you can practically eat all that you want with little worry (in theory you could "overeat" from a carb-counting standpoint, but good luck with that). While this may put you slightly above the 20g net carb recommendation and may not be considered "optimal", as I've said before, get your diet squared away, get your fitness goals established, then worry about optimization down the road when you've established a foundation from which you can work to achieve those goals.

Ultimately find what works for you based on your budget, what foods you like, how much time you can dedicate to meal prep, and your short-term foundational goals (bulking, cutting, etc.). Don't be afraid to experiment for yourself.
>>
>>39871659
Cabbage is one of the best foods you can eat from a nutritional standpoint, and it's dirt cheap to boot. I can't recommend it enough.
