Are you allowing proper recovery time?
>>
>>39762838
how long is proper?
>>
>>39762801
do some shin stretches
i think dancers call them batmas
stand like a T and point one leg straight out from your body while pointing toe
>>
>>39762853
even when i stretch properly i still get shin splints and its almost always my left leg for some reason.. some of my runner buddies are saying it might be my shoes or how i run.. i land midfoot but maybe i need to change it? or maybe even open my stride more?

Bumping because I have a similar problem, OP. I get shin splints on the inside of my shin easily if I run on concrete (or in some cases, asphalt if I'm running more distance). I've found that proper rest is the best method. Side note: it's probably due to some imbalance, though.

This is personal broscience but I think that recovery time is necessary to repair/build and ultimately adapt the muslces connecting to the shin for longer distances/more frequent running sessions. So what I'm doing now is running once every week at a good pace on asphalt. I'm likely not as much of a runfag as you, so you'll probably want to run more, but you need to heal your shins adequately to be able to do that. Yeah, it sucks, but there are other ways to get your cardio fix.

You could try running on soft sand if you live near the beach. I never get shin splints when I run on soft sand, and it keeps me conditioned for longer distance stuff.

i don't think youre stretching your shins properly. can you do forward splits on both sides while pointing your toes? can you kick higher than your chest while pointing your toes?
>>
>>39762849
2-3 weeks off
shin splints are overuse of the ant tib
>>
Do some recovery jogs at a nice easy pace, shouldn't hurt

Also foam roll your calves after a run, this speeds up the recovery process.
>>
A lot of shin problems are caused by tight calves. Stretch out your shins and do some foam rolling and it should help.

Make sure you're properly hydrated. I usually only get splints if I run while I'm dehydrated.

Otherwise, here is the magic stretch I use to make them go away faster:
>stand on one foot
>hold your other leg straight out in front of you
>write the alphabet with your toe, first in lowercase and then in uppercase
>repeat with the other foot

recovery time, stretching

personally i kept getting them till i corrected my running gait, my feet were striking the ground at a weird angle (under pronating like crazy) and I wasnt even aware. Did a bunch of running drills for a few weeks and it fixed me up. Probablly not your problem but its worth checking

I had a similar problem, its a bitch...

Rest, drop your distance, get new shoes, and stretch afterwards like your life depends on it.

Slowly raise your distance up.

Do whole leg stretches too, the sticky has good examples.

I found out that a lot of my back, knee, and ankle pain is because my left leg is a full inch longer than my right. Are there any specialty running shoes for that or do I just need to get an insert

Fish Oil and good shoes. Seriously. I dont get them anymore.
