Started keto today. Not even a full day yet and I already feel like shit.

Is this normal?

I know a girl who used keto to lose 85lbs and she swears you need to drink salt water the first few days in order to replenish electrolytes or something

Yes, it's normal.

This effect is called "keto flu"; a side effect of transitioning from glucose to ketones as fuel.

1. You need more electrolytes. Drink powerade zero if you have to. Add salt to your water, drink hot soup, whatever. Your body is losing a lot of electrolytes without carbs.

2. Eat more fat. Small amounts at first, but just get accustomed to eating healthy fats en masse. Keto is traditionally 70% fat, so load up on avocados, eggs, bacon, butter, heavy whipping cream, fatty meats, cheese, etc etc. This will feel weird at first and it will take a while to adjust to using fat as fuel.

Yeah depending on how many carbs you usually consume it may take a bit for you to adjust to a low/no carb diet. I did when i was 17 and in about 4 to 5 months i lost roughly 60 pounds(45ish fat). Some of it was muscle but i was working out with an insane schedule atleast 10+ plus times a week most times twice a day. Just make sure once you are done you rev your calories back up slowly. Usually going on keto people lower calories too much too fast and your body will fight back and if you introduce too many cals back too fast you will get fat. Similar to yoyo dieting. Caffeine and shakes will be your ally.

Thanks, man. I'm planning on eating healthy after keto. I'll be reintroducing more vegetables than bread and shit.

This is an experiment because I want to lose weight really fast before i see an ex for the first time in a year. I'm hoping for at least 10 lbs - that'll get me lean and ottermode. 20 lbs will get me shredded.

when I first got into ketosis I felt like shit for 2 days. now when I wanna dip in I do this >>39733541 plus magnesium and potassium supplements. I don't drink salt water just like a teaspoon of salt when I start getting the keto headache. Now that I got it dialed I do a cleaner version of keto where it's more like 40-50% fat, and my fat comes from nuts, olive oil, avocado and my protein is mostly fish. I eat maybe 30 g carbs from veggies and bloodwork says I'm stil in ketosis. I generally don't crave carbs so it's easy for me to stay in single digit BF year round.
