Yo /fit/, this is a pretty stupid question but are different sizes of barbels used for different exercises?
My brother asked for a 1.2m (about 4 feet) barbell for Christmas, but I had a look in the store and it seemed extremely small compared to my shoulders, and I have thinner shoulders than he does.
Looked online and most recommendations are around 2m for men (6-7 feet)
Did he fuck up or am I retarded

if you want to get a barbell get a real one, most shorter ones are shit. An axle (aka a fat bar) might be a cheaper option and is better for a lot of exercises

>ask him if he was sure about the 1.2m one
>he replies it's the only one that fit the wishlist budget guidelines
truly horrifying

you want an olympic barbell. any knockoffs or thin bars will bend with a decent amount of weight on them

these say they're tested for up to 165kg (360 pounds)
That isn't amazing but it shouldn't fuck up for most exercises as far as I can tell
Obviously it's possible they're lying about it, but wouldn't they be risking law suits in case an accident happen when still within the recommended weight range?

The thing will probably start bending at much lower than 360
just get a 7 foot olympic bar
CAP makes some cheap ones that hold up very well, I've had mine for years and it has withstood repeated 500lb+ deadlifts with non-bumper plates

Guess I should just cut my losses and hope he trades it in for some weights or whatever
I was considering just saying fuck the budget and picking up the double priced 2m one, but if you think it'll still be trash I'd rather just not bother
>instagram fags post "if the bar ain't bendin you're just pretendin"
>get thinner bar, which bends more easily
>???
>profit
pic unrelated

>this is a pretty stupid question
You're right.

>wishlist budget guidelines
Damn, I remember being poor. Shit sucked.

you can get a 7ft 50mm axle for about 100 quid
much cheaper than a normal barbell

I'm fine with upping the budget, the family agreed on the budget before I got to get a say in and I don't want to seem like the bad guy changing it after people made their wishlists and what not already
like I said, I'd also be fine just paying more to trade it in for one that'd actually feel comfortable to use for him, but if it's most likely going to be shit quality I don't see the point

I'm comfortable going like 50 or so, but going 100-150 instead of
25
is a bit much in my opinion

I don't know dude, atleast I'm not this bad
